TO SERVE AS THE UMBRELLA ORGANIZATION OF THE WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY HEALTH SCIENCES ("WFUHS") AFFILIATED RESEARCH PARK ENTITIES, OVERSEEING ALL WFUHS ACTIVITIES INVOLVING THE WAKE FOREST INNOVATION QUARTER, INCLUDING LAND ACQUISITION, MASTER PLANNING AND PARK DEVELOPMENT.

TO SERVE AS THE UMBRELLA ORGANIZATION OF THE WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY HEALTH SCIENCES ("WFUHS") AFFILIATED RESEARCH PARK ENTITIES, OVERSEEING ALL WFUHS ACTIVITIES INVOLVING THE WAKE FOREST INNOVATION QUARTER, INCLUDING LAND ACQUISITION, MASTER PLANNING AND PARK DEVELOPMENT SUCH AS INFRASTRUCTURE, RECRUITING, ETC., AND TO COORDINATE THE EFFORTS OF ALL WFUHS AFFILIATED RESEARCH PARK ENTITIES INCLUDING WAKE FOREST INNOVATION QUARTER CDC. THE ORGANIZATION WILL PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL CAMPUS FOR THE LONG-TERM RESEARCH SPACE NEEDS OF WFUHS AND UNDERTAKE REVITALIZATION AND REDEVELOPMENT EFFORTS OF THE CENTER-CITY AREA OF WINSTON-SALEM.THE ORGANIZATION MAINTAINS THE LONG BRANCH TRAIL, A 1.7 MILE NETWORK OF GREENWAY TRAILS FOR WALKING, RUNNING AND BIKING THAT RUNS THROUGH INNOVATION QUARTER. THE TRAIL WAS BUILT THROUGH COLLABORATION AMONG THE FILING ORGANIZATION, ITS AFFILIATES, THE CITY OF WINSTON SALEM, THE NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND THE NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION - RAIL DIVISION. DURING FY20, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED FREE COMMUNITY PROGRAMS HOSTED AT BAILEY PARK, WHICH OFFERS A STAGE, LAWN AND FOOD TRUCK COURT TO ACCOMMODATE LARGE GATHERINGS:- INNOVATION & CINEMA (COMMUNITY FILM SERIES);- BAILEY, BLUES & BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL (COMMUNITY MUSIC FESTIVAL); - YOGA IN BAILEY PARK (COMMUNITY YOGA SERIES); AND- FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL (MONTHLY MAY THROUGH NOVEMBER).THE PROGRAMS REFERENCED ABOVE WERE ALL PRESENTED IN THE PERIOD FROM JULY 1, 2019 THROUGH MID-MARCH OF 2020, PRIOR TO THE ONSET OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, BUT WERE SUSPENDED FOR THE BALANCE OF THE ORGANIZATION'S FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2020.
SCITECH INSTITUTE, A COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH (STEM) PROGRAM FOR UPPER ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS. ON AN ANNUAL BASIS FOR TWO DAYS IN THE SPRING AND TWO WEEKS IN THE SUMMER, STUDENTS ARE IN AN IMMERSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT TO EXPOSE THEM TO CAREERS IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH THROUGH A SERIES OF FIELD TRIPS, LABS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES. STUDENTS NOT ONLY GET DEMONSTRATIONS OF AVAILABLE STEM CAREERS, BUT ALSO THE TECHNOLOGY THAT MAKES THESE CAREERS POSSIBLE. AS A RESULT, STUDENTS LEARN TO NOT JUST THINK OF STEM CAREERS IN TERMS OF END USERS, BUT ALSO AS THE INNOVATORS WHO MOVE TECHNOLOGY FORWARD.SCITECH WAS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2020 DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS, BUT IS SET TO RESUME ONCE RESTRICTIONS ARE LIFTED.
