RECOGNIZED BY TIME MAGAZINE AS ONE OF THE TOP REGIONAL THEATRES IN THE U.S., THE TONY AND EMMY-AWARD WINNING FESTIVAL ANNUALLY PRESENTS 11 SEPARATE PLAYS, RANGING FROM SHAKESPEARE, TO CLASSICS, TO MUSICALS, TO NEW CONTEMPORARY WORKS OVER AN 8 MONTH SEASON FROM FEBRUARY THROUGH OCTOBER. IN 2019, 850 LIVE PERFORMANCES WERE PRESENTED ON 1 OUTDOOR, 3 INDOOR AND MULTIPLE COMMUNITY STAGES BEFORE AN AUDIENCE OF 360,175, WHILE ATTENDANCE AVERAGED 82.5% OF CAPACITY.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS: FOR MORE THAN 67 YEARS, OSF HAS DEVELOPED EDUCATION PROGRAMS THAT ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE THEATRE-GOING EXPERIENCE. OSF HAS ONE OF THE MOST EXPANSIVE THEATRE EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN THE U.S. IN THE 2019 SCHOOL VISIT PROGRAM OSF VISITED 10 JUNIOR HIGH AND HIGH SCHOOLS, PROVIDING PERFORMANCES AND INSTRUCTION TO APPROXIMATELY 6,500 STUDENTS. 71 ON-SITE PREFACES AND 87 LECTURES AND FREE PARK TALKS BETWEEN THE PLAYS PROVIDED INSTRUCTION TO 7,579 STUDENTS, TEACHERS, AND OTHER PATRONS. THERE WERE 14 LIVING IDEAS ART & COMMUNITY DIALOGUE EVENTS SERVING 450 PATRONS. THERE WERE 4 ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS WHICH SERVED 92 PATRONS. WORKSHOPS FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS, OTHER EDUCATION EVENTS REACHED APPROXIMATELY 27,198 MORE ATTENDEES. (CONTINUED ON SCH O) THERE WERE 294 BACKSTAGE TOURS ATTENDED BY 10,554 PEOPLE. FAMILY DAY PROLOGUES WERE ATTENDED BY 339 PATRONS, AND 250 PATRONS ATTENDED THE OSF SIGN-INTERPRETED PROLOGUES.
OSF'S THREE-YEAR COMMISSIONING PROGRAM, PLAY ON! (39-PLAY PROJECT TRANSLATING ALL OF THE PLAYS WITHIN SHAKESPEARE'S CANON INTO MODERN VERSE), CONCLUDED SUCCESSFULLY IN FY19 WITH A LOCAL TOURING PRODUCTION OF LA COMEDIA OF ERRORS, A BILINGUAL ADAPTATION OF CHRISTINA ANDERSON'S PLAY ON! TRANSLATION OF THE COMEDY OF ERRORS. IN ADDITION, PLAY ON! BECAME ITS OWN NON-FOR-PROFIT ENTITY UNDER A NEW NAME - PLAY ON! SHAKESPEARE - AND PRODUCED A PLAY READING FESTIVAL OF ALL 39 TRANSLATIONS IN MAY-JUNE 2019 IN COLLABORATION WITH THE CLASSIC STAGE COMPANY OF NEW YORK. AMERICAN REVOLUTIONS: THE UNITED STATES HISTORY CYCLE (37 PLAYS DEDICATED TO EXPLORING MOMENTS OF CHANGE IN AMERICAN HISTORY) SAW PRODUCTIONS OF TWO COMMISSIONS - BETWEEN TWO KNEES (CONTINUED ON SCH O)BY THE 1491S AND INDECENT BY PAULA VOGEL - ON THE OSF MAINSTAGE IN 2019. SUBSTANTIAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY FOR FUTURE SEASON PRODUCTIONS ADDITIONALLY TOOK PLACE. 6 NEW COMMISSIONS WERE ANNOUNCED IN FALL 2019.
