Organizations Filed Purposes: To promote, retain, restore and enhance watersheds of the Powder Basin in Northeast Oregon.

Watershed Restoration:FIELD WORK FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF RESTORATION PLANS ON UPPER PINE CREEK BEGAN AND A PRELIMINARY REPORT WAS PRODUCED. THE POWDER BASIN WATERSHED COUNCIL ADMINISTERED IDAHO POWERS WATER EFFICIENCY PROGRAM. THE BEAVER RESTORATION ASSESSMMENT TOOL WAS COMPLETED FOR THE NORTH FORK BURNT RIVER. A PROPOSAL WAS SUBMITTED TO FUND A SURVEY OF FISH HABITAT ON THE POWDER RIVER WITH THE AIM OF DEVELOPING PROJECTS TO IMPROVE FISHING BETWEEN BAKER CITY AND MASON DAM.

Watershed Assessment, Planning and Monitoring:ANOTHER YEAR OF DATA WAS COLLECTED FOR THE 24 SITES IN THE LONG-TERM WATER QUALITY MONITORING PROGRAM. MEASUREMENTS INCLUDE TEMPERATURE (CONTINUOUS AND MONTHLY GRAB-SAMPLE), PH CONDUCTIVITY, TURBIDITY AND DISSOLVED OXYGEN. ALL MACR0-INVERTEBRATE SAMPLING WAS COMPLETED BY PBWC STAFF AT 25 SITES AND SAMPLES WERE DELIVERED TO A LAB FOR IDENTIFICATION. IDENTIFICATION WAS COMPLETED, THE RAW DATA ANALYZED BY PARTNERS AT OREGON DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY AND A DRAFT REPORT WAS PRODUCED BY PBWC STAFF. THE FIRST YEAR OF WATER QUALITY SAMPLING AT THE ODFW ELK FEEDING STATIONS BEGAN WITH SAMPLING OCCURING IN JANUARY AND APRIL FOR THE SAME PARAMETERS AS THE LONG-TERM SITE ALONG WITH BACTERIA AND PHOSPHORUS. SAMPLES WERE DELIVERED TO A LAB FOR ANALYSIS WITH RAW DATA RETURNED TO PBWC STAFF.

Watershed Outreach and Education:THE THIRD YEAR OF PBWCS OFF-CHANNEL LIVESTOCK WATERING OUTREACH BEGAN, CONSISTING OF A DIRECTED MAILING AND THE PUBLICATION OF ONE EDITION OF OUR NEWSLETTER,FEATURING AN ARTICLE ON THE PROJECTS THAT WERE RECRUITED. PBWC PARTICIPATED IN TWO EDUCATIONAL EVENTS FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN: OUTDOOR SCHOOL AND SUMMER ACADEMY. WE HOSTED TWO EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS ON THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: RAFTING THE WORLDS RIVERS AND FISHING IN THE POWDER BASIN. WE ALSO HOSTED TWO HIKES TO LOCAL WILD AND SCENIC RIVERS. IN ADDITION, TWO RIVER CLEANUPS WERE CONDUCTED AND INFORMATIONAL BOOTHS WERE STAFFED AT HALF A DOZEN COMMUNITY EVENTS.
