Organizations Filed Purposes:
CIVIL LIBERTIES DEFENSE CENTER (CDLC) educates the general public about their rights and privileges under the US Constitution and provides free legal support to climate and social justice activists.
The Civil Liberties Defense Center's "Dissent & Democracy" program uses education to proactively challenge attacks on our civil liberties and rights. CLDC's "Know Your Rights (KYR)" training is a regularly occurring educational event, and each workshop is tailored to the needs of the participants. CLDC has substantially increased the diversity of the training provided over the past year, including but not limited to: youth, parent, immigration, landlord-tenant, worker and climate activist rights, from free speech to arrest to trial to sentencing. Under our "Effective Communities" campaign, CLDC pairs with other public interest and activist groups to educate them not only on their Constitutional rights, but also on applicable laws and the right of the entities they are protesting. Armed with knowledge, participants are empowered to make informed choices regarding their interactions with government agents, corporations, counter-protesters and others, thereby better protecting their rights and safety.
JUSTICE IN ACTION: THE CLDC LITIGATION PROGRAM PROVIDES FREE LEGAL REPRESENTATION AND REFERRALS TO A WIDE VARIETY OF ACTIVISTS, IMMIGRANTS, HOMELESS AND OTHER VULNERABLE INDIVIDUALS. CLDC ONLY ACCEPTS CASES THAT HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO CARRY OUT ITS MISSION OF CIVIL LIBERTIES DEFENSE. THE ORGANIZATION HAS HELPED HUNDREDS OF INDIVIDUALS DIRECTLY AND IMPACTED MANY OTHER LIVES INDIRECTLY.
