We offer a forum for communication among children and youth from different cultures and backgrounds. We expand the horizons for young people in a creative way. We published our non-commercial, multicultural literary magazine four times a year (quarterly).

Published and distributed a multicultural and nature education magazine for students and educators. Frequency: Quarterly. We also maintain an extensive website with many articles, poems, photos, art pieces, and stories by students as well as adults from our various published issues, and recently submitted submissions.
CODE: 511120. Published and distributed our advertisement-free, multicultural and nature education magazine for students, parents, educators and libraries, to promote creative writing, art and critical thinking and interactions in youth. Average print run: 925. Subscribers include schools, libraries, teachers and families and many on-line users as Skipping Stones content is carried by several full-text websites for educational and library users. The magazine content is also used in both print and online standardized tests, and by some print and online publishers. Expenses shown above are: editor's salary and employee benefits, taxes paid, printing and postage for producing and sending out the magazine issues, office rental, and office expenses, etc. The revenue of $73067 is from subscription and single copy sales, online use, and Skipping Stones content use fees. The donations and grants received from subscribers and foundations helped cover the remaining expenses of our operations.
CODE: 511120. We held two annual honor award programs to recognize multicultural awareness and nature education in juvenile literature, as well as in teaching resources. The Youth Honor Awards program promotes creativity in children and youth, and serves kids and educators. The Skipping Stones Honor Awards program recognizes books and teaching resources that promote multicultural and international awareness, and/or nature understanding. We also held our annual Haiku and nature art contest for all students and home-schoolers.There were approximately 350 entrants but these programs benefit all educators and readers of Skipping Stones as well as other educators and general public. Expenses consist of time spent by the staff on the task of processing, reading & judging entries, preparing and mailing the issues, certificates, books for the winners, etc. Revenues: Entry fees for the awards program and award seals. The expenses attributed to this program are approximate as we have only one paid staff and therefore, the staff time is divided between various tasks in the office and thus it is hard to be very exact.
We sent educational reading material for low-income schools, libraries, families and organizations serving low-income youth. Under this program, we sent free and discounted subscriptions, free back issues of our magazines and donations of books to about 125 schools/libraries, and about 500 students, near and far. The expenses for this program are covered by general donations and small grants that we receive from supporters and foundations.
