Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF COMMUNITY CONNECTION OF NE OREGON, INC. IS TO ADVOCATE FOR AND ASSIST SENIOR CITIZENS, CHILDREN, LOW-INCOME PERSONS, AND PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN ATTAINING BASIC HUMAN NEEDS AND IN BECOMING MORE SELF SUFFICIENT.

Low-income programs: Many Northeast Oregon residents struggle to make ends meet; those who do often rely on Community Connection's services to help meet their basic human needs, especially food, rent, and utilities. In addition to direct assistance to clients, we are also the Regional Food Bank for our four-county area. As such, we distribute food to eighteen food pantries and several Harvest Share and Fresh Alliance sites. We also continued replacing unsafe furnaces, weatherizing homes, and rehabilitating homes to improve living conditions and address structural concerns. In Fiscal Year 2020, 3,709 people in 1,923 families stayed warm and safe with utility bill assistance; 863 people avoided homelessness through emergency rental assistance or kept warm at night with emergency shelter; 68 people lived in stable housing with rental assistance and supportive services; 16,711 food boxes prevented families from going hungry; and 144 people received home repair and energy efficiency information resulting in 22 homes improved.

Transportation programs: Community Connection continued its multi-faceted transportation system. The fixed route trolleys in Baker City and La Grande are open to everyone as are The Link seasonal route and the dial-a-ride busses in Wallowa County. If unable to navigate the fixed route, a qualified passenger in Baker City or La Grande rides the paratransit bus. Also available for any and all riders are the intercity busses from Baker City and Enterprise to our multi-modal hub in La Grande. Beyond our region, taking passengers to medical appointments in Boise, Walla Walla, and Portland is a common occurrence. In Fiscal Year 2020, 80,789 rides were provided to 1,189 passengers plus an unrecorded number of riders on the fixed routes.

Senior programs: Helping seniors live independently in their homes while providing opportunities for socialization and access to services remains the primary goal of our senior programs. When a senior citizen or their family member seeks answers, we are usually the first place they turn. Just a few hours of assistance per week often makes the difference between living independently and a move to a care facility. We also continued to support family caregivers by providing respite from the daily demands of their roles. In Fiscal Year 2020, 947 seniors and 495 volunteers and non-seniors enjoyed 40,826 meals at our senior centers and 11,101 meals to-go; 600 seniors had 63,633 meals delivered to their homes; 156 frail seniors were helped with 26,112 professional caregiver hours; 67 family caregivers received 1,908 hours of respite relief; 366 seniors and their families received guidance on addressing immediate needs and planning for the future; 214 people had their blood pressured checked, got their flu shot or received foot care, and hundreds of people enjoyed recreational activities such as dances, card games, exercise classes, and billiards
