ORPA EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING - DURING THE YEAR ENDED DECEMBER 31, 2020, OREGON RECREATION AND PARK ASSOCIATION (ORPA") ORGANIZED AND PRESENTED 2 IN-PERSON WORKSHOPS EARLY IN THE YEAR AND A SERIES OF WEBINARS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR DURING THE PANDEMIC LOCK-DOWN. THESE PROGRAMS PROVIDE VALUABLE CONTINUING EDUCATION, AS WELL AS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR PROFESSIONALS TO NETWORK ACROSS THE STATE. FOR THOSE PROGRAMS OFFERING CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS, REVENUES HELPED OFF-SET EXPENSES FOR WEBINARS THAT WERE OFFERED FOR FREE OR AT AN AFFORDABLE RATE TO PROFESSIONALS AROUND THE STATE. 176 PEOPLE WERE SERVED FROM THESE EFFORTS IN 2020.CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O.SAFETY CERTIFICATION AND MAINTENANCE TRAINING - ORPA ALSO OFFERED THREE INTENSIVE EDUCATION COURSES AIMED AT INCREASING THE SAFETY OF PLAYGROUNDS AND INSTILLING KNOWLEDGE AS TO THE PROPER MAINTENANCE OF PLAYGROUNDS AND ASSOCIATED FACILITIES. THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDE A CERTIFICATION EXAM FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN GAINING OR RENEWING PROPER CERTIFICATION. 134 PEOPLE WERE SERVED FROM THESE EFFORTS IN 2020.DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION COMMITTEE EFFORTS - THE ORPA DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION (DEI) COMMITTEE WORKS TO SERVE THE INDUSTRY IN ADVANCING EQUITY FOR BOTH STAFF AND PATRONS IN PARKS AND RECREATION. THE EFFORTS OF THIS COMMITTEE RESULTED IN EQUITY TRAINING FOR STAFF WHO OTHERWISE WOULD NOT HAVE FUNDS TO BRING IN A CONSULTANT. THIS TRAINING FOCUSED ON SYSTEMIC RACISM, UNDERSTANDING OPPRESSION, AND IMPLICIT BIAS. IN ADDITION, THE DEI COMMITTEE BUILT UPON THE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND DEVELOPED A PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING AFFILIATION SPECIFICALLY FOR THOSE WHO IDENTIFY AS BLACK, INDIGENOUS, AND/OR A PERSON OF COLOR. 110 PEOPLE WERE SERVED FROM THESE EFFORTS IN 2020.
ORPA LEGISLATIVE ACTIVITIES - ORPA MONITORED STATE LEGISLATION RELATED TO PARK AND RECREATION POLICY, FUNDING, AND REGULATIONS. THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTED LIMITED GRASSROOTS ADVOCACY ACTIVITIES.
