HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF LINCOLN COUNTY IS A NOT FOR PROFIT ECUMENICAL HOUSING MINISTRY DEDICATED TO THE ELIMINATION OF SUBSTANDARD HOUSING IN LINCOLN COUNTY. HFHLC STRIVES TO MAKE AFFORDABLE HOUSING A MATTER OF CONSCIENCE AND ACTION AND IS COMMITTED TO BUILDING SIMPLE, DECENT HOUSING FOR AND WITH LOW-INCOME FAMILIES.
THE HOUSING PROGRAM BUILDS AND/OR RENOVATES SIMPLE AND AFFORDABLE HOMES FOR LOW INCOME FAMILIES IN NEED OF DECENT SHELTER. PARTNER FAMILIES, AS THEY ARE CALLED, HAVE AN ANNUAL INCOME OF 30-80% OF MEDIAN FAMILY INCOME FOR LINCOLN COUNTY BASED ON FAMILY SIZE. PARTNER FAMILIES MUST ALSO PUT 500 HOURS OF "SWEAT EQUITY" INTO THEIR FUTURE HOME AND THE HOMES OF OTHERS WHO QUALIFY FOR THE PROGRAM. THE HOUSING PROGRAM PROVIDES FAMILIES A FOUNDATION ON WHICH THEY CAN BUILD LONG-TERM FINANCIAL SECURITY. THE IMPACT OF HOME OWNERSHIP IS PROFOUND AND LASTING, IMPROVING CHILDREN'S EDUCATIONAL PERFORMANCE, EMPLOYMENT STABILITY, AND LIFE SATISFACTION. THE CURRENT NEW CONSTRUCTION BUILDING PROJECT IS A DUPLEX LOCATED IN NEWPORT WHICH IS NEARING COMPLETION, AND ITS FUTURE OWNERS HAVE APPLIED FOR HOUSING AND WERE APPROVED FOR THE DUPLEX. THE HOUSING PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES THE CRITICAL HOME REPAIR PROGRAM OR CHRP. THOSE WHO QUALIFY FOR CHRP RECEIVE REPAIRS, RENOVATIONS, OR REHABILITATION TO/OF THEIR HOMES AT NO OR LOW COST ALLOWING THEM TO REMAIN IN THEIR OWN HOMES, IN SAFETY.
RESTORE ACCEPTS DONATIONS OF NEW AND USED BUILDING MATERIALS AND HOME FURNISHINGS AND RESELLS THESE GOODS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR HFHLC'S HOUSING PROJECTS AND OPERATIONS. THE RESTORE PROGRAM BENEFITS THE COMMUNITY BY DIVERTING LARGE AMOUNTS OF REUSEABLE MATERIALS FROM LANDFILLS AND PROVIDING THESE PRODUCTS TO THE PUBLIC AT A FRACTION OF THEIR ORIGINAL COST. SINCE OPENING HFHLC'S TWO RESTORES, OVER 11 MILLION POUNDS OF MATERIALS WERE DIVERTED FROM LANDFILLS. DONATED BUILDING MATERIALS, SUPPLIES, AND APPLIANCES ARE ALSO USED IN HFHLC'S HOUSING PROGRAM FOR NEW CONSTRUCTION AND REHABILITATED HOMES. HFHLC HAS 2 RESTORES; 1 IN LINCOLN CITY AND 1 IN NEWPORT. THE LINCOLN CITY RESTORE RECEIVED DONATED ITEMS OF MERCHANDISE THAT TOTALED 251,062 AT THRIFT SHOP OR SELLABLE VALUE, AND HAD TOTAL SALES OF 254,858 DURING THE FISCAL YEAR. ENDING INVENTORY OF GOODS WAS 26,785.
