Historical Education
Pendleton Underground Tours is a place where culture is kept, history is told, and legends live on. We are dedicated to promote and preserve the history and culture of Pendleton, Maintain a quality tour, and promote tourism in Pendleton and surrounding areas. P.U.T. accomplished this in 2019 by bringing approximately 17,803 visitors to the area from all 50 states and over 40 different countries. This includes three cruise ships the American Pride, American Empress, and Queen of the West that bus up to 80 people in to Pendleton 3 times a week from March to November. We also take through several school groups and other private bus tours. We work closely with the Chamber of Commerce, Pendleton Downtown Association, and other tourist committees to continuously increase the number of people visiting Pendleton. Once a year we have our annual fundraiser, Comes to Life, with 75 live actors/volunteers. This year we had 516 people come through in one day. We also started a new Murder Mystery fundraiser that has proven to be a success. We conducted 4 of these parties, hosting 25 people per event. In 2019 we also gave out over 100 tour tickets to other non-profits. We also assisted in getting the "Triple Nickel" historical marker placed in Pendleton to commemorate the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion, which comprised the nation's first black paratroopers.
