Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE CIRCUS PROJECT OFFERS CIRCUS ARTS EDUCATION AND PERFORMANCES THAT INVITE PEOPLE WITH A VARIETY OF LIFE EXPERIENCES TO GROW AS ARTISTS, INDIVIDUALS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
TO USE CIRCUS ARTS AS A CATALYST FOR INDIVIDUAL AND COLLECTIVE TRANSFORMATION.
CIRCUS EDUCATIONOUR EDUCATION PROGRAMS SUPPORT CIRCUS ARTISTS FROM MANY WALKS OF LIFE. WE PROVIDE A SPACE AND CURRICULUM WHERE EVERY STUDENT CAN SHOW UP AS THEIR AUTHENTIC SELF AND LEARN TO HOW TO TRAIN WITH THE DISCIPLINE, SAFETY, AND CREATIVE PRESENCE OF A PROFESSIONAL CIRCUS ARTIST. WE DO THIS THROUGH TUITION-BASED CLASSES AND INTENSIVE TRAINING PROGRAMS OPEN TO YOUTH AND ADULTS FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC, AND THROUGH OUR PATHWAYS PROGRAM, WHICH INCREASES ACCESS TO THE ARTS FOR STUDENTS WHO WOULDN'T OTHERWISE HAVE THESE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES. OUR PROGRAMS ARE MADE ACCESSIBLE WITH A ROBUST SCHOLARSHIP FUND AND AN ON-STAFF SOCIAL WORKER TO WORK WITH STUDENTS AND FAMILIES TO REMOVE FINANCIAL, LOGISTICAL, AND CULTURAL BARRIERS TO PARTICIPATION.
PATHWAYS: CREATING ACCESS TO CIRCUS ARTSIN 2019, WE PROVIDED OVER $66,000 WORTH OF FREE OR REDUCED CIRCUS TRAINING FOR FOLKS WITH FINANCIAL BARRIERS, AND HOSTED CLASSES AND FIELD TRIPS FOR SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS THAT WORK WITH KIDS WHO DON'T HAVE MUCH ACCESS TO PERFORMING ARTS OPPORTUNITIES. WE ALSO LAUNCHED THE VOICE PROJECT, A YEAR-LONG CIRCUS PERFORMANCE PROGRAM FOR 6 YOUTH WITH MARGINALIZED IDENTITIES.
PERFORMANCETHE VOICE PROJECT PREMIERED AN ORIGINAL STUDENT-CREATED SHOW, GRAVITY DEFIANT, TO SOLD-OUT AUDIENCES. OUR TRAINING COMPANY FOR ADULT STUDENTS, ELEMENTS, PRODUCED AND PERFORMED A NEW WORK, TEMBLOR, WHICH EXPLORED THEMES OF LOSS, RESILIENCE, AND CAMARADERIES THROUGH POETIC NARRATIVES. OUR YOUTH TRAINING COMPANY, BRIO, PREMIERED THEIR ORIGINAL PRODUCTION, AWAKEN, WHICH EXPLORED THE SPACE BETWEEN SLUMBER AND CONSCIOUSNESS, AND WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE AWAKEN TO OUR OWN POWER. AND, OUR SUMMER PERFORMANCE INTENSIVE FOR ADVANCED YOUTH STUDENTS PERFORMED AT GALAXY FEST AND AT THE AMERICAN YOUTH CIRCUS ORGANIZATION (AYCO) IN SAN DIEGO. WE PRODUCED 3 INSTALLMENTS OF LIVING ROOM CIRCUS, OUR SHOWCASE OF INNOVATIVE PIECES AND WORKS-IN-PROGRESS FROM PERFORMING ARTISTS ALL AROUND PORTLAND AND BEYOND. AND, FOR THE FIRST TIME, WE SERVED AS A FISCAL SPONSOR AS A WAY TO SUPPORT OTHER CIRCUS ARTISTS WHILE ALSO GENERATING EARNED INCOME. ACROSS ALL OUR 2019 SHOWS, WE PERFORMED FOR 3,000 AUDIENCE MEMBERS.
