FORUMSCITY CLUB PUTS ON ABOUT 80 EVENTS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC PER YEAR. FRIDAY FORUM IS THE CLUBS SIGNATURE PROGRAMAN HOUR-LONG EXAMINATION OF AN IMPORTANT ISSUE AT THE LUNCH HOUR MOST FRIDAYS. A FRIDAY FORUM COMMITTEE CHOOSES TOPICS AND SPEAKERS FOR THEIR POLICY IMPLICATIONS, TIMELINESS AND PUBLIC INTEREST. DURING THE PANDEMIC, FRIDAY FORUM MET VIRTUALLY
MEMBERSHIP CITY CLUB MEMBERS ARE THE BACKBONE OF THE ORGANIZATION. MEMBER VOLUNTEERS MANAGE MOST ASPECTS OF CITY CLUB PROGRAMMING. WE MAINTAIN FREQUENT COMMUNICATION WITH OUR MEMBERS THROUGH BIWEEKLY EMAILS. AN ANNUAL REPORT IS PUBLISHED THAT REFLECTS ON THE PAST YEAR. OUR MEMBERSHIP SERVICES BEGIN WITH OUR CIVIC SCHOLARS PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH. CIVIC SCHOLARS CURRENTLY PARTNERS WITH EIGHT AREA HIGH SCHOOLS AND SERVES APPROXIMATELY 160 STUDENTS (WITH ABOUT 60% STUDENTS OF COLOR AND 70% LOW-INCOME).
RESEARCH & ADVOCACYCITY CLUB OF PORTLAND IS THE LAST CITY CLUB IN THE COUNTRY CONDUCTING COMMUNITY-BASED RESEARCH. WE BRING COMMUNITY MEMBERS TOGETHER TO PARTICIPATE IN RIGOROUS RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS ON IMPORTANT ISSUES FACING OUR CITY, REGION, AND STATE. SINCE 1920, CITY CLUB MEMBERS HAVE PREPARED MORE THAN 1,000 RESEARCH REPORTS. WE CONDUCT COMPREHENSIVE RESEARCH STUDIES AND BALLOT MEASURE STUDIES. AFTER A STUDY IS APPROVED BY THE RESEARCH BOARD AND BOARD OF GOVERNORS, MEMBERS VOTE ON MAKING IT THE CLUBS OFFICIAL. WITH A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY OF OUR VOTING MEMBERS, RESEARCH MOVES INTO AN ADVOCACY PROCESS. MEMBERS OF OUR ADVOCACY COMMITTEES WORK TO INFORM DECISION-MAKERS, THE MEDIA, SOCIAL INTEREST GROUPS, AND THE PUBLIC ABOUT CITY CLUBS ADOPTED POLICY POSITIONS AND TO ADVOCATE FOR THEIR IMPLEMENTATION.
