MISSION:EMPOWER OREGON FAMILIES EXPERIENCING DISABILITY IN THEIR PURSUIT OF A WHOLE LIFE BY EXPANDING AWARENESS, GROWING COMMUNITY, AND EQUIPPING FAMILIES.VISION:FAMILIES HAVE HIGH EXPECTATIONS AND A VISION FOR THE FUTURE WHERE ALL COMMUNITIES ARE ACCESSIBLE, WELCOMING, AND EMBRACE THAT DISABILITY IS NATURAL.VALUES: WHAT DRIVES OUR WORKDISABILITY IS NATURAL.THE IMPORTANCE OF HIGH EXPECTATIONS.SELF-DETERMINATION MUST BE ASSURED.WHOLE LIVES HAPPEN WHEN FAMILIES EXPERIENCING DISABILITY ENGAGE WITH THEIR COMMUNITIES.FAMILY INVOLVEMENT IS CRITICAL THROUGHOUT THE LIFE OF A FAMILY MEMBER WITH A DISABILITY.EQUITABLE ACCESS FOR ALL AND RESPECT FOR CULTURAL DIFFERENCES.

"FACT OREGON'S MISSION IS TO EMPOWER FAMILIES EXPERIENCING DISABILITY IN THEIR PURSUIT OF A WHOLE LIFE BY EXPANDING AWARENESS, GROWING COMMUNITY, AND EQUIPPING FAMILIES. FACT OREGON BELIEVES THAT FAMILIES EXPERIENCING DISABILITY SHOULD SET HIGH EXPECTATIONS AND ESTABLISH A VISION FOR THE FUTURE WHERE ALL COMMUNITIES ARE ACCESSIBLE AND WELCOMING.FACT OREGON IS STATEWIDE, CROSS-DISABILITY, AND FAMILY-DRIVEN AND IS THE FEDERAL AND STATE DESIGNATED PARENT TRAINING AND INFORMATION CENTER (PTI) FOR OREGON. OUR PEER SUPPORT, TRAININGS, AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT WORK IS DEVELOPED BY FAMILIES, FOR FAMILIES. PROGRAM STAFF AND BOARD MEMBERS ARE ALL PARENTS OF CHILDREN EXPERIENCING DISABILITY AND/OR DEEPLY INVOLVED IN ADVOCACY ON BEHALF OF THIS COMMUNITY.THANKS TO FACT OREGON STAFF'S STRONG EXPERIENCE WITH OUTREACH, COMMUNITY BUILDING, AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT, IT IS ABLE TO PROVIDE PEER-DELIVERED FAMILY SUPPORT TO OREGON FAMILIES RAISING CHILDREN WHO EXPERIENCE DISABILITY. IT DOES THIS BY SUPPORTING CONNECTIONS TO RESOURCES, REFERRAL, INFORMATION, TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES, AND FAMILY-TO-FAMILY CONNECTIONS. IN 2018-19, FACT OREGON PROVIDED SUPPORT TO FAMILIES IN ALL 36 OREGON COUNTIES, HAD OVER 12,470 CONNECT WITH US OR RECEIVE OUR E-NEWSLETTER, AND 4,018 PARENTS AND PROFESSIONALS ATTEND A TRAINING OR ACTIVITY. IN ADDITION, OUR PEER SUPPORT LINE STAFF HAD 9,523 DIRECT CONTACTS WITH 1,623 UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS TO HELP FAMILIES NAVIGATE DISABILITY AND SPECIAL EDUCATION. THIS REPRESENTS A 35% INCREASE OVER THE YEAR PRIOR. WE TRAVELED ACROSS THE STATE TO HOST EIGHT REGIONAL LEARNING SUMMITS AND DOZENS OF OTHER TRAININGS ON TOPICS SUCH AS SPECIAL EDUCATION, BEHAVIOR, ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY, DISPUTE RESOLUTION, TRANSITION TO KINDERGARTEN, TRANSITION TO ADULTHOOD, AND MORE. OUR ALL ABILITY TRI4YOUTH, A BARRIER-FREE TRIATHLON FOR YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS WITH AND WITHOUT DISABILITIES, GREW 62% OVER THE INAUGURAL 2017-18 EVENT.FACT OREGON'S BOARD APPROVED A STRATEGIC PLAN IN MAY 2019 THAT LAYS OUT PRIORITIES FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS TO STRENGTHEN ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY, DELIVER MAXIMUM IMPACT, AND ENSURE SUSTAINABILITY WITH BROAD-BASED, DIVERSIFIED FUNDING AND FOCUSED ON STRATEGIES TO DIVERSIFY OUR BOARD. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO LAUNCHED A DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION INITIATIVE, TO BE LARGELY COMPLETED IN 2019-20, GREW AND PROFESSIONALIZED THE DEVELOPMENT FUNCTION, AND IMPROVED EFFICIENCIES IN HOW WE PROVIDE SERVICES AND CAPTURE INFORMATION.IN AN ANNUAL FOLLOW-UP SURVEY TO FAMILIES RECEIVING SPECIAL EDUCATION SUPPORT, OVER 91% STATED THAT INFORMATION RECEIVED WAS VERY USEFUL OR USEFUL, AND 90% STATED THE INFORMATION RECEIVED AT A WORKSHOP WAS VERY USEFUL OR USEFUL. FEEDBACK INCLUDED STATEMENTS LIKE, ""I DEEPLY APPRECIATED HOW THE STAFF INTERACTED WITH ME OVER THE PHONE - PROFESSIONAL, SINCERE, AND PERSONAL. SHE ENCOURAGED ME GREATLY. AND ""MY EMAILS WERE ANSWERED WITHIN HOURS. I HAVE CONTACTED FACT OREGON TWICE AND BOTH TIMES I HAVE GOTTEN GREAT RESPONSES AND ALOT OF HELP."" THE SURVEY ALSO SHOWED THAT FACT OREGON IS HAVING A TRANSFORMATIONAL CHANGE IN THE LIVES OF FAMILIES. WITH SEVEN QUESTIONS ASKED ABOUT HOW VIEWS HAVE CHANGED ON DISABILITY, EACH QUESTION HAD AN INCREASE."
