Organizations Filed Purposes:
The purpose of HCAO is to work for an equitable, affordable, comprehensive, high-quality, publicly funded universal health care system serving everyone in Oregon and the United States.
HCAOs major accomplishment in 2019: Through its community engagement and educational efforts HCAO continued to increase awareness of the inequities of the current healthcare system and opportunities for the public and its members to have a voice in addressing these inequities. These activities have pushed supporters to over 37,000. In particular, HCAO volunteers advocated for public policy to establish a path to a universal healthcare system in Oregon based on an explicit set of values and principles. HCAO also counts the following as among its major 2019 accomplishments: a comprehensive monthly informational newsletter, participation in the Fair Shot for All Coalition to create awareness of opportunities for public policy changes to improve access to health care, hosting the National Single Payer Strategy Conference to Portland as an educational and advocacy event, and diversifying its board in alignment with HCAOs Equity Principle
