Organizations Filed Purposes: Home Empower's (dba Nonprofit Home Inspections) mission is to broaden access to and improve the quality of information readily available to homeowners by training home inspectors to deliver a higher level and variety of inspection services, making sure quality home inspection services are available to every home owner, regardless of their ability to pay, and disseminating free information. We believe everyone is entitled to a healthy, safe, environmentally sound, and energy efficient place to live.

Safety and Maintenance Inspections: Professional evaluations of homes on a sliding scale for 1,253 families. Each client educated on significant structural and safety problems for the home, including environmental issues (such as exposure to asbestos, lead and radon), and critical maintenance needs. Continued a free radon testing program for low and moderate income families in Oregon and Washington in an effort to identify elevated levels of radon in the home (the leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers, and a significant contributor to lung cancer for smokers.) Continued compiling data for research related to environmental and safety hazards in the home.

Inspector Training: Further established an educational training program and state licensed trade school designed to empower others to help identify significant hazards in housing. Opportunities included formal job training and an apprentice program. State licensed home inspector school taught 32 students through intensive instruction and field training. NHI's Washington Home Inspector training program had the highest pass rate for the national exam for any home inspector school in Washington with over 5 students (94% pass rate compared to a 57% overall overage). Three apprentices obtained status of Certified Master Inspector in 2019 and began the process of becoming an ASHI Certified Inspector. Became certified as an educational provider for the GI Bill / Veterans Benefits. Approved to provide continuing education for real estate agents in Oregon and Washington. Began developing training programs for sewer scopes, pool inspections and oil tank sweeps.

Environmental Training: Analyzed energy defects and gave recommendations for potential improvements in more than 1,200 homes. Staff and apprentices were trained on energy efficient components including heat pumps and solar panel installations. Continued certification as an Energy Trust Trade Ally for energy efficiency projects. Continued U.S. Department of Energy Home Energy Score Assessments. Developed training to become DEQ certified Heating Oil Tank Supervisors and Sewer Scope technicians.
