The Library Foundation strengthens our community and creates a bright future for children by supporting, expanding and advocating for Multnomah County Library's innovative and groundbreaking work. Gifts, large and small, make this work possible.
To enhance the work of Multnomah County Library and sustain a strong library system.
School-age literacy programs reached 7 school districts with books and four programs that cemented reading skills and academic success. Summer Reading: 15,000 babies, children and teens reached. Rockwood Library Makerspace: in one of our highest-risk neighborhoods, the library offered a hands-on, technology-rich learning environment and programs to more than 1,400 teens. Welcome to Reading Literacy Kits and STEM Kits: reached thousands of children and parents at all library locations. Outreach to families: 11,500 children's books and e-books in 5 languages were made available to children and parents through outreach work focused on diverse communities and the circulating collection.
Early literacy programs reached 80,000 babies, young children and parents with books, parent education and programs that engaged families in reading together. For families at risk for low literacy, the programs help parents become their child's first, best and most permanent teacher. Every Child A Reader reached 33,000 young children and parents, sending books home in up to 20 languages, educating parents, and motivating families to read together. The WIC partnership reached 20,800 high risk moms and children with literacy education at health clinics. Dia de los Ninos and Fiesta de Verano engaged 20,500 children and parents with bilingual literacy programs. The New Parent Program sent 5,500 newborns and parents home from the hospital with literacy education and an introduction the library throughout the year.
Lifelong learning programs, workshops and events at library locations and outreach centers reached more than 19,000 people of all ages last year. Everybody Reads reached students by bringing books, curriculum and discussion groups to 25 middle and high schools and youth organizations, transforming how students experience reading, writing, and the written word. Children and adults accessed free arts, cultural and humanities programs at branches across the system. Seniors and adults participated in the Everybody Reads community-wide reading program, including lectures and book discussion groups.
