AN EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO PROMOTING LIFE-LONG LEARNING THROUGH THE ARTS. THE ORGANIZATION BELIEVES THAT EVERY PERSON IS CREATIVE, HAS SOMETHING TO OFFER OUR CULTURE, AND DESERVES THE OPPORTUNITY TO KNOW THAT EXPERIENCE.

VAN BUREN YOUNG ARTISTS DEBUT! COMPETITION & CONCERTO CONCERT - EIGHT YOUNG VIRTUOSI AGED 12 TO 21 WERE SELECTED DURING AN EXTENSIVE AUDITION PROCESS. THEY WERE THEN COACHED AND PERFORMED CONCERTOS WITH MUSICIANS FROM THE OREGON SYMPHONY AND OREGON BALLET THEATRE ORCHESTRAS FOR AN AUDIENCE OF OVER 400 IN PERSON, AND ANOTHER 2,500 WHEN THE CONCERT WAS BROADCAST ON ALL CLASSICAL PORTLAND.

METROARTS INC. KIDS CAMP - NEARLY 130 KIDS, AGES 7-12, WERE IMMERSED IN THE ARTS. THE CAMP GIVES KIDS A CHANCE TO EXPERIENCE ALL ARTS - MUSIC, THEATER, AND VISUAL ARTS - FOR ONE OR MORE WEEKS. NEARLY 20% ATTENDED ON FULL OR PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIP. OVER ITS 26-YEAR HISTORY, MORE THAN 3,800 CAMPERS HAVE PARTICIPATED.

NEARLY 30 ARTISTIC KIDS AGES 8-14 FROM UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES PARTICIPATED IN AN INCREDIBLE BACKSTAGE OPPORTUNITY AT THE OREGON SYMPHONY. FROM THIS EXPERIENCE, THEY LEARNED BEHIND THE SCENES INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTISTIC AND BUSINESS PROCESSES INVOLVED IN CREATING AN OREGON SYMPHONY CONCERT. THE EXPERIENCE CULMINATED WITH THE OREGON SYMPHONY PERFORMING ALONG TO THE 1989 BATMAN MOVIE.
