OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE QUALITY REPRESENTATION AND ZEALOUS ADVOCACY TO EACH CLIENT, TO CONDUCT OUR WORK WITH PROFESSIONALISM AND DIGNITY, AND TO PROMOTE IMPROVEMENT IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE.
METROPOLITAN PUBLIC DEFENDER SERVICES, INC. ("MPD") IS A 501(C)(3) NON-PROFIT LAW FIRM THAT PROVIDES LEGAL DEFENSE SERVICES FOR MISDEMEANOR TO CAPITAL MURDER CASES, JUVENILE MATTERS FROM DELINQUENCY TO DEPENDENCY, MENTAL HEALTH CASES FROM CIVIL COMMITMENTS TO MENTAL HEALTH COURTS, AND SPECIALTY PROJECTS FROM DRUG COURTS TO COMMUNITY COURT. MPD HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR HANDLING APPROXIMATELY 16,100 CASES A YEAR WITH THE PRIMARY PUBLIC DEFENSE CONTRACTS IN MULTNOMAH AND WASHINGTON COUNTIES AS WELL AS THE LARGEST CAPITAL DEFENSE CONTRACT IN THE STATE.MPD IS ALSO DEDICATED TO BUILDING A HOLISTIC MODEL IN WHICH WE ARE A COMMUNITY-BASED RESOURCE, PROVIDING A BROAD ARRAY OF LEGAL SERVICES TO LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS FOR THE PURPOSE OF IMPROVING OUTCOMES LIKE LONG-TERM STABILITY.
THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED LEGAL SERVICES TO INDIGENT DEFENDANTS IN MULTNOMAH AND WASHINGTON COUNTIES IN THE STATE OF OREGON. IN 2019, METROPOLITAN PUBLIC DEFENDER SERVICES HANDLED APPROXIMATELY 16,100 CRIMINAL CASES. MPD IS NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED FOR ITS LEADERSHIP IN THE PUBLIC DEFENSE COMMUNITY THROUGH ITS LONG-TERM INVOLVEMENT WITH INNOVATIVE DRUG TREATMENT PROGRAMS AND COMMUNITY COURTS AND MPD IS ALSO NOTED FOR ITS IN-HOUSE EXPERTS ON ALTERNATIVE SENTENCING PROGRAMS AND TRAINING OF NEW LAWYERS.MPD'S COMMUNITY LAW DIVISION PROVIDES BARRIER REDUCTION SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS WITH PRIOR INVOLVEMENT IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM THROUGH LEGAL REPRESENTATION ASSISTING WITH REINTEGRATION AND RESTORATION INTO THE COMMUNITY. THESE SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE TO VETERANS, NON-CITIZENS AND INDIVIDUALS IN PUBLIC HOUSING AND POVERTY REDUCTION PROGRAMS. THESE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED THROUGH FEDERAL, COUNTY, CITY AND PRIVATE FOUNDATION GRANTS, DONATIONS OR LOW-BONO FEES FOR LOW INCOME INDIVIDUALS.
