Organizations Filed Purposes: THE NATIONAL PSORIASIS FOUNDATION PROVIDES PEOPLE WITH PSORIASIS AND PSORIATIC ARTHRITIS THE SERVICES THEY NEED TO BEST MANAGE THEIR CONDITION, WHILE PROMOTING RESEARCH TO FIND A CURE.

TO DRIVE EFFORTS TO CURE PSORIATIC DISEASE AND IMPROVE THE LIVES OF THOSE AFFECTED.

RESEARCHPSORIATIC DISEASE RESEARCH ACCOUNTED FOR 31 PERCENT OF TOTAL EXPENSES FOR THE NATIONAL PSORIASIS FOUNDATION (NPF). THIS INCLUDED THE SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH AND AWARD OF THE PSORIASIS PREVENTION INITIATIVE (PPI) GRANT, WHICH FUNDS MULTI-INSTITUTIONAL, MULTI-DISCIPLINARY RESEARCH TEAMS WITH THE GOAL OF IDENTIFYING AN INTERVENTION THAT WILL PREVENT THE ONSET OF PSORIATIC DISEASE, DISEASE RELAPSE OR RELATED COMORBIDITIES. IN ADDITION, FUNDING CONTINUED FOR THE PSA DIAGNOSTIC TEST GRANT, THE MECHANISM SUPPORTING RESEARCH FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A ROBUST, RELIABLE AND REPRODUCIBLE CLINICAL DIAGNOSTIC TEST FOR PSORIATIC ARTHRITIS (PSA), A SIGNIFICANT UNMET NEED FOR THE COMMUNITY. RESEARCH FUNDING WAS ALSO PROVIDED FOR DISCOVERY EFFORTS, EARLY CAREER RESEARCHERS, TRANSLATIONAL SCIENCE AND FELLOWS AND STUDENT PROJECTS.SEVERAL OTHER RESEARCH INITIATIVES PROGRESSED, INCLUDING DEFINING REMISSION AND CURE, THE VALIDATION OF CITIZEN PSCIENTIST PATIENT REGISTRY PLATFORM AND PREPARATION FOR THE FIRST NPF-LED CLINICAL STUDY. NPF ALSO PARTNERED WITH UPENN IN A PATIENT CENTERED OUTCOMES RESEARCH INITIATIVE-FUNDED STUDY AIMING TO EVALUATE THE SAFETY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF HOME VERSUS OFFICE PHOTOTHERAPY. THIS UNIQUE STUDY WILL EVALUATE ALL SKIN TYPES AND INCLUDE SITES NATIONWIDE. FROM A PATIENT-CENTERED POINT OF VIEW, NPF MADE SIGNIFICANT ADVANCES IN ITS ANNUAL SURVEY, WHICH RESULTED IN MULTIPLE PUBLICATIONS ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE OF LIVING WITH PSORIATIC DISEASE AND CARE MANAGEMENT. THE JOURNAL OF PSORIASIS AND PSORIATIC ARTHRITIS (JPPA) ACHIEVED INITIAL INDEXING, WITH ORIGINAL RESEARCH AND OVERALL SUBMISSIONS INCREASING IN NUMBER AND CITATIONS ON THE RISE.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL EDUCATIONPROFESSIONAL EDUCATION IS A PILLAR OF THE FOUNDATION'S WORK TO OPTIMIZE CARE AND HEALTH OUTCOMES FOR THE PATIENT COMMUNITY. ALL THE NPF IN-PERSON MEDICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS MOVED TO DIGITAL OR VIRTUAL PROGRAMS AFTER THE ONSET OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, BUT THE OFFERINGS WERE STILL DIVERSE AND ENCOMPASSING. THERE WERE PROGRAMS FOR TRAINEES AND PROVIDERS ON A VARIETY OF TOPICS. THE RESIDENT'S MEETING, IN ITS 21ST YEAR, WAS WELL ATTENDED WITH AN OUTSTANDING FACULTY. NPF FOCUSED EFFORTS ON INCREASING THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN DERMATOLOGISTS AND RHEUMATOLOGISTS, WHICH IS ESSENTIAL TO IMPROVE THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF PSA. THE ADVANCE PRACTICE PSORIASIS RECOGNITION PROGRAM (A-PREP), WHICH IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO ADDRESS KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICE GAPS AMONG PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS AND NURSE PRACTITIONERS, WAS VERY WELL RECEIVED. THE PROGRAM COVERS PATHOPHYSIOLOGY, DIAGNOSIS AND ASSESSMENT OF PSORIASIS, APPROPRIATE THERAPIES AND TREATMENT GUIDELINES THROUGH DIDACTIC LECTURES, SPECIALIZED MODULES AND Q&AS. GRAND ROUNDS WERE HELD AT A VARIETY OF INSTITUTIONS TO PROMOTE LEARNING IN UNDERSERVED AREAS. IN ADDITION TO LIVE PROGRAMS, SEVERAL WEBINARS, PODCAST AND ENDURING CONTENT MATERIALS WERE CREATED TO ADDRESS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF PSORIATIC DISEASE RESEARCH AND CARE WITH EMPHASIS ON THE NEWLY RELEASED TREATMENT GUIDELINES. NPF ALSO INITIATED EFFORTS FOR A MEDICAL SCHOOL EDUCATION CURRICULUM RESOURCE TO INTRODUCE FIRST- AND SECOND-YEAR MEDICAL STUDENTS TO CONCEPTS AND CONSIDERATIONS FOR PSORIATIC DISEASE. THE PROGRAM WILL BE PROVIDED TO MEDICAL SCHOOLS ACROSS THE COUNTRY WITH THE HOPE OF BRINGING A GREATER AWARENESS TO ALL FUTURE PROVIDERS BUT ALSO TO ENGAGE MORE PHYSICIANS IN TRAINING FOR THE COMMUNITY.

ADVOCACYNPF WORKS TO ENSURE PATIENTS HAVE AFFORDABLE ACCESS TO THE TREATMENTS THEY NEED. THIS YEAR, THAT INCLUDED STEP THERAPY REFORM VICTORIES IN SOUTH DAKOTA, LOUISIANA AND NORTH CAROLINA, WHERE PATIENTS WILL NOW HAVE IMPROVED ACCESS TO CARE.NPF LEVERAGES ITS TENS OF THOUSANDS OF ADVOCATES TO WORK FOR HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE IN THE U.S. LIVING WITH PSORIATIC DISEASE, WHILE ALSO WORKING TO IMPROVE THE SAFETY AND AFFORDABILITY OF PSORIASIS AND PSA TREATMENTS AND INCREASING FEDERAL FUNDING FOR PSORIATIC DISEASE RESEARCH.
