Organizations Filed Purposes: New City Initiatives mission is engaging faith communities in ending the cycle of homelessness.

New City Initiatives purpose is fostering communities where all people achieve their full human potential. We envision a new community of mutually transformative relationships with the power to end the intergenerational cycle of homelessness and poverty. We do this by investing in partnerships, extending the capacity of our partners, and enhancing stability for people who have experienced homelessness. We train and equip volunteer support teams to work with homeless families, provide employment training and placement in the food service industry, and offer other communitybased supports.

New City Kitchen - New City Kitchen is a social enterprise providing employment training and placement in the food service industry. As part of our training program, we operate a catering business that employs our trainees and graduates, providing them with earned income and real world employment. In 2017, we trained 18 individuals. Four (4) individuals graduated the program, all of whom retained employment upon graduation.

Village Support Network - Village Support Network is a program that trains teams of volunteers from congregations to provide support and assistance to homeless families during the critical first six months after they transition for shelter to housing. Village Support Network teams work with families on goal setting, budgeting, job search, and enrolling kids in school and extracurricular activities. In 2017, 6 families were sponsored by Village Teams. We engaged 7 additional congregations who were interested in organizing and training teams to support additional families. This is the first year our reach extended out of Portland, OR to include families and teams in Beaverton,OR, Gresham, OR and Vancouver, WA.

Healthy Sisters - Healthy Sisters is a volunteer transportation network that provides rides to and from medical appointments for formerly homeless women with chronic or ongoing conditions. Drivers provide transportation, support as needed during and after appointments, and reminder calls. There was no activity in 2017.
