IT CARRIES THE REGION'S LARGEST VOLUME OF USED AND SURPLUS BUILDING AND HOME IMPROVEMENT MATERIALS. THE STORE PROVIDES RESOURCES THAT MAKE HOME REPAIRS AFFORDABLE TO EVERYONE AND DONATES MATERIALS TO ORGANIZATIONS AND GROUPS WORKING ON VITAL COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS, WITH THE GOAL OF PROMOTING COMMUNITY RESILIENCE. THE INVENTORY INCLUDES: USED FRAMING LUMBER, DOORS, WINDOWS, FLOORING, KITCHEN AND BATHROOM CABINETS, LIGHTING, SINKS, TUBS, FAUCETS, HARDWARE AND MUCH MORE. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OF THE REBUILDING CENTER'S MATERIALS ARE DISCOUNTED FOR SALE OR DONATION TO THE PUBLIC.
EDUCATION & VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS: THROUGH OUR EDUCATION PROGRAM, WE EMPOWER STUDENTS TO DEVELOP PRACTICAL SKILLS THROUGH A WIDE RANGE OF FUN, HANDS-ON CLASSES. OUR FULLY EQUIPPED WOODSHOP AND PROFESSIONAL TEACHING STAFF WELCOME OVER 2,500 CLASS PARTICIPANTS ANNUALLY, FROM YOUTH GROUPS AND DIY HOMEOWNERS TO TEAM-BUILDING AND EMPLOYEE TRAINING WORKSHOPS. ONE-FOURTH OF CLASSES ARE FOR WOMEN ONLY, AND 17% RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS TO ATTEND CLASSES IN WOODWORKING, CARPENTRY, ELECTRICAL, AND PLUMBING. THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM ALSO LEADS THE ANNUAL DAY OF SERVICE, PERFORMING ESSENTIAL HOME REPAIRS FOR LOW-INCOME NEIGHBORS AT RISK OF DISPLACEMENT FROM OUR COMMUNITY.
DECONSTRUCTION SERVICES: FROM MARCH 1999 TO JULY 2019, DECONSTRUCTION SERVICES PLAYED A VITAL ROLE IN KEEPING REUSABLE BUILDING MATERIALS OUT OF THE WASTE STREAM, PIONEERING AN INDUSTRY THAT HAS NOW SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE PORTLAND METRO REGION, AS WELL AS NATIONALLY--AS A BENEFICIAL ALTERNATIVE TO DEMOLITION. OVER THE COURSE OF OUR OPERATIONS, WE DECONSTRUCTED ALMOST A MILLION SQUARE FEET ON OVER 1,000 PROJECTS.
