Organizations Filed Purposes: TO INSPIRE UNDERSTANDING AND STEWARDSHIP OF PORTLAND HISTORY THROUGH PITTOCK MANSION, ITS COLLECTIONS, AND PROGRAMS.

THE PITTOCK MANSION SOCIETY (THE SOCIETY) OPERATES THE HISTORIC HOUSE MUSEUM WHICH HAS HISTORICALLY BEEN OPEN TO THE PUBLIC OVER 330 DAYS PER YEAR. DUE TO MANDATORY CLOSURES RELATED TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE MUSEUM WAS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC FROM MARCH 17 THROUGH JULY 8, 2020. THE SOCIETY EDUCATES THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE PITTOCK FAMILY AND PORTLAND HISTORY WHILE CELEBRATING THE DEVELOPMENT OF PORTLAND. THIS PAST FISCAL YEAR, THE ORGANIZATION WELCOMED 82,198 VISITORS; THIS INCLUDES: (1) VISITATION TO THE MUSEUM BY 10,143 YOUTH; (2) VISITS BY 684 ELEMENTARY STUDENTS, CHAPERONES, AND TEACHERS THROUGH THE SOCIETY'S DISCOVERY PROGRAM, AND (3) ENGAGEMENT OF 654 VISITORS THROUGH THE SOCIETY'S PARTNERSHIPS WITH SEVERAL DIFFERENT COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS, SUCH AS OREGON TRAIL'S FINE ARTS FOR ALL AND LOCAL COUNTY LIBRARY CULTURAL PASS PROGRAMS THIS YEAR, THE SOCIETY WORKED ON DEVELOPING NEW EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVES. THIS INVOLVED NEW PROGRAMS, DEVELOPING PARTNERSHIPS, ENHANCING THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM. THE SOCIETY EXPANDED ITS PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS TO INCLUDE COMMUNITY DISCUSSIONS, LECTURES, AND A HANDS-ON PROGRAM DURING WHICH PARTICIPANTS LEARNED ABOUT EARLY 20TH CENTURY ARCHITECTURE BEFORE DESIGNING AND CONSTRUCTING THEIR OWN GINGERBREAD HOUSE. MANY EVENTS, PROGRAMS, AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES WERE PLANNED OR IN PROGRESS WHEN THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HIT. UNFORTUNATELY, ALL THE PROGRAMS AND EVENTS PLANNED FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE FISCAL YEAR HAD TO BE CANCELLED. THE SOCIETY THEN SHIFTED ITS FOCUS TO CREATING SHORT-TERM DIGITAL EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES. THE SOCIETY ALSO CREATED TWO TEMPORARY EXHIBITS, OFFERING ADDITIONAL CONTENT FOR VISITORS. THE FIRST EXHIBIT WAS A COMMUNITY ART SHOW WITH PIECES FEATURING MOUNT HOOD; THE SECOND WAS THE MUSEUM'S ANNUAL HOLIDAY DISPLAY, A COMMUNITY TRADITION FOR OVER 50 YEARS.

THE PITTOCK MANSION SOCIETY (THE SOCIETY) FURNISHES, CONSERVES, AND MAINTAINS THE COLLECTIONS OF ANTIQUE FURNITURE, DECORATIVE ART, FINE ART, PHOTOGRAPHS, AND HISTORIC DOCUMENTS WITHIN PITTOCK MANSION, A NATIONAL REGISTER HISTORIC PROPERTY THAT IS A HISTORIC HOUSE MUSEUM. THE SOCIETY CONTINUED TO (1) WORK WITH THE CITY OF PORTLAND TO ADVOCATE FOR PRESERVATION OF THE HOUSE AND LONG-TERM PLANS FOR CAPITAL REPAIRS, AS WELL AS (2) LED NEEDED PRESERVATION PROJECTS SUCH AS RESTORING THE WOODEN FLOORS, REPRODUCING MISSING LIGHT FIXTURES, REPLICATING GLASS SHADES, AND SCANNING THE ORIGINAL FIXTURE BASES.
