EDUCATION PROGRAM:SCRAP'S EDUCATION PROGRAMS OFFER A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR KIDS PRE-K THROUGH 12 TO LEARN THE FUNDAMENTALS OF REUSE AND RESOURCEFULNESS. STUDENTS LEARN IN A RICH AND ENGAGING PROGRAM FOCUSING ON THE CRADLE-TO-GRAVE JOURNEY OF VIRGIN MATERIALS. USING CREATIVITY AND ART TECHNIQUES, STUDENTS CREATE SUSTAINABLE PROJECTS FROM RECLAIMED ITEMS AVAILABLE IN THEIR HOMES OR AT SCRAP STORES. A MENU OF OPPORTUNITIES IS PROVIDED FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR EDUCATION PROGRAMS; CAMP SCRAP, SCRAP AT SCHOOL, SCHOOL'S OUT SCRAP'S IN, SCOUTING OUTINGS AND TEACHER TRAINING BLOCKS. THESE EDUCATION PROGRAMS REACHED OVER 6,300 KIDS.
CREATIVE REUSE CENTER (CRC):SCRAP'S CREATIVE REUSE CENTERS ARE PROGRAMS THAT OFFER THE OPPORTUNITY FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR MISSION. SCRAP ACCEPTS DONATIONS OF CLEAN, REUSABLE CREATIVE MATERIALS (I.E. FABRIC, BOTTLE CAPS, PAPER, ART SUPPLIES, CRAFT ITEMS, YARN, NOTIONS) AND MAKE THEM AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE AT A LOW COST. EDUCATORS, CRAFTERS, CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURS, FAMILIES, AND MAKERS ARE ALL ABLE TO STRETCH THEIR BUDGETS BY PURCHASING RECLAIMED MATERIALS AT A FRACTION OF THE COST OF REGULAR RETAIL STORE. IN FY18, SCRAP DIVERTED 172 TONS OF MATERIAL FROM THE WASTE STREAM. SCRAP CREATIVE REUSE CENTERS ARE LOCATED IN ANN ARBOR, MI; BALTIMORE, MD; DENTON, TX; HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA; PORTLAND, OR; AND RICHMOND, VA.
VOLUNTEER PROGRAM:EACH OF SCRAP'S SIX LOCATIONS IS DEPENDENT UPON VOLUNTEERS TO EFFECTIVELY OPERATIONALIZE OUR MISSION. THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS REFLECT OUR DEEP BELIEF IN THE CRITICAL ROLE VOLUNTEERISM PLAYS IN THE FABRIC OF SOCIETY. VOLUNTEERING AT SCRAP OFFERS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS TO ENGAGE IN SCRAP'S MISSION AND SHARE THEIR TIME, PASSION AND EXPERTISE WITH OTHERS AND SUPPORT SUSTAINABILITY, CREATIVITY AND EDUCATION IN THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITIES. OVER 17,506 VOLUNTEER HOURS WERE LOGGED IN FY18.
