Organizations Filed Purposes: TO PROVIDE THE BEST ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR STUDENTS TO HEAL AND BECOME EDUCATED, PRODUCTIVE COMMUNITY MEMBERS.

TO HELP AT-RISK CHILDREN WHO WERE FAILING WITHIN THE TRADITIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM.

SERENDIPITY CENTER IS A PRIVATE, NONPROFIT SCHOOL AND TREATMENT CENTER DEDICATED TO STUDENTS WHOSE COMPLEX NEEDS PREVENT ATTENDANCE IN PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTINGS. IN 2019-2020, 125 YOUNG PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN SERENDIPITY'S THERAPEUTIC SCHOOL PROGRAM. IN EVERY SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THIS REGION, THERE ARE STUDENTS FACING CHALLENGES THAT MAKE SUCCESSFUL PARTICIPATION IN PUBLIC SCHOOL IMPOSSIBLE. WITHOUT EFFECTIVE HELP AND THE CHANCE TO START OVER, THESE CHILDREN CAN BECOME DISRUPTIVE, UNSAFE, AND HIGHLY DISCOURAGED ABOUT THEIR FUTURES. LAST YEAR, STUDENTS WERE REFERRED BY 21 DISTRICTS THROUGHOUT THE PORTLAND METROPOLITAN AREA AND SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON. IT IS THE MISSION OF SERENDIPITY TO PROVIDE THE BEST ENVIRONMENT FOR STUDENTS TO HEAL AND BECOME EDUCATED, PRODUCTIVE COMMUNITY MEMBERS. CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O.THE FOUR PILLAR MODEL DEVELOPED AT SERENDIPITY INTEGRATES EDUCATION, MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS, TRANSITION READINESS, AND WELLNESS INTO ALL SCHOOL DAYS. ACCOMPLISHMENTS FROM THIS YEAR INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING:THE EXPANSION AND DEVELOPMENT OF SERENDIPITY'S MULTI-TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORT. WITH INVESTMENTS FROM THE MEYER MEMORIAL TRUST, THE COLLINS FOUNDATION, AND THE OREGON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, THIS TEAM EXPANDED TO INCLUDE THREE FULL-TIME TIER I COACHES, ALL TRAINED IN SUPPORTING CLASSROOM TEAMS IN MATCHING SUPPORTS WITH DEMONSTRATED STUDENT NEEDS. IN TERMS OF UNPLANNED ACCOMPLISHMENTS, THE SUDDEN CLOSURE OF IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION IN MID-MARCH WAS JARRING TO OUR STUDENTS, FAMILIES, AND STAFF MEMBERS. THE DEGREE OF RESILIENCE AND COMMITMENT TO HEALING AND LEARNING THAT EMERGED WAS ASTONISHING. STUDENTS COMPLETED THE YEAR, DESPITE CHALLENGES WITH TECHNOLOGY, ISOLATION, AND ESCALATED BEHAVIORAL HEALTH EPISODES. FOUR GRADUATES WERE AWARDED DIPLOMAS, WITH TWO ADDITIONAL GRADUATES COMPLETING THEIR REQUIREMENTS OVER THE SUMMER. STAFF AND STUDENTS HAVE LEARNED NEW INTERACTIVE PLATFORMS, NEW CURRICULA, NEW SCHEDULES, AND NEW EXPECTATIONS. THERE WERE DAILY DISCUSSIONS OF SELF-REGULATION, SELF-CARE, AND COURAGE IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY. THERE WERE REMINDERS THAT OUR RELATIONSHIPS MATTER AND THAT WHEN WE ARE COMMITTED, WE CAN MEET OUR GOALS TOGETHER IN A VARIETY OF WAYS.
