Organizations Filed Purposes:
OUR MISSION AS SEIU LOCAL 49 IS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR OUR MEMBERS, THEIR FAMILIES, AND DEPENDENTS BY ACHIEVING A HIGHER STANDARD OF LIVING, BY ELEVATING THEIR SOCIAL CONDITIONS AND BY STRIVING TO CREATE A MORE JUST SOCIETY. THIS LOCAL UNION'S PURPOSE IS TO REPRESENT, PROTECT, MAINTAIN AND ADVANCE THE INTERESTS OF THE WORKERS WITHIN ITS JURISDICTION; TO ASSIST THEM IN SECURING EMPLOYMENT; TO IMPROVE THEIR WAGES, HOURS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT; TO PROMOTE THE INTERESTS OF THE MEMBERSHIP THROUGH ORGANIZING; AND TO ENGAGE IN LEGISLATIVE, POLITICAL, EDUCATIONAL, CIVIC, WELFARE AND OTHER ACTIVITIES WHICH FURTHER THE INTERESTS OF THE MEMBERSHIP.
SEIU LOCAL 49 PROVIDES MEMBER REPRESENTATION,ORGANIZATION, AND NEGOTIATION OF UNION MEMBER SALARIES AND BENEFITS FOR APPROXIMATELY 14,600 MEMBERS. WE STRIVE TO: 1. DEVELOP A DIVERSE, HIGHLY TRAINED AND MOTIVATED LEADERSHIP WITH HIGH STANDARDS AT EVERY LEVEL OF THE UNION. 2. CONTINUE TO BUILD A STRONG AND SOLID UNION BY DEVELOPING A MEMBERSHIP VOICE IN OUR WORKPLACE AND IN OUR COMMUNITIES. 3. CREATE MEANINGFUL PATHS FOR MEMBER INVOLVEMENT AND PARTICIPATION IN A STRONG DEMOCRATIC LOCAL WHERE, IN SOLIDARITY, WE STAND FIRMLY AGAINST DISCRIMINATION AND EXPLOITATION, BUILDING TRUST AT EVERY LEVEL OF THE LOCAL. 4. CONTINUE TO ORGANIZE UNORGANIZED WORKERS IN OUR INDUSTRIES (PROPERTY SERVICE AND HEALTH CARE) IN ORDER TO EXTEND UNION STANDARDS AND GAIN LEVERAGE AND CONTROL OVER OUR INDUSTRIES. 5. ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN POLITICS TO STRENGTHEN OUR COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENTS, TO ORGANIZE NEW WORKERS AND TO ADDRESS WORKPLACE ISSUES THROUGH ELECTORAL, LEGISLATIVE AND GRASSROOTS POLITICAL ACTIVITY. 6. COMMUNICATE WITH RESPECT AND ACCOUNTABILITY AMONG AND BETWEEN THE EXECUTIVE BOARD, MEMBERS AND STAFF SO WE CAN SPEAK WITH ONE VOICE.
