SOCIAL VENTURE PARTNERS PORTLAND (SVP PORTLAND) BRINGS PROFESSIONALS AND ORGANIZATIONS TOGETHER IN PARTNERSHIP TO ADDRESS COMMUNITY CHALLENGES. AS VENTURE PHILANTHROPISTS, WE MOBILIZE TALENT, MONEY, AND INFLUENCE FOR INVESTMENT IN NONPROFITS AND INITIATIVES.
TO MOBILIZE HUMAN, SOCIAL & FINANCIAL CAPITAL FOR INVESTMENT IN SOCIAL IMPACT ORGANIZATIONS.
THE PRIMARY MISSION OF SVP PORTLAND IS TO PROVIDE CAPACITY-BUILDING SUPPORT TO THE NONPROFIT GRANTEES WE CALL COMMUNITY PARTNERS. IN 2020, THE PARTNERSHIP OF 120+ INDIVIDUALS INVESTED MORE THAN $200,000 IN CASH GRANTS AND 6,700 HOURS OF PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE (CONSERVATIVELY VALUED AT $670,000). TOGETHER, THESE REPRESENT A VALUE OF MORE THAN $870,000 OF COMMUNITY INVESTMENTS INTO A PORTFOLIO OF 12 NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS THAT ARE FOCUSED ON ENSURING THAT ALL CHILDREN REGARDLESS OF ETHNICITY, WEALTH, RELIGION, GENDER, OR ZIP CODE HAVE ACCESS TO HIGH-QUALITY, CULTURALLY-RELEVANT EARLY LEARNING EXPERIENCES.
THE EQUITY COLLABORATIVE IS COMPRISED OF FIVE COMMUNITY PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS: BLACK PARENT INITIATIVE, IMMIGRANT & REFUGEE COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION, KAIROSPDX, LATINO NETWORK, AND NATIVE AMERICAN YOUTH AND FAMILY CENTER. SVP PORTLAND PROVIDED GRANT FUNDING TO THE EQUITY COLLABORATIVE AND SERVES AS ITS FISCAL MANAGER AND LEAD CAPACITY BUILDER. USING GRANTS FUNDS FOR WHICH THEY JOINTLY APPLIED, THEY ARE WORKING COLLECTIVELY TO INCREASE INVESTMENTS IN CULTURALLY-SPECIFIC EARLY CHILDHOOD PRACTICES AND SHIFT THE PUBLIC NARRATIVE IN ORDER TO MAKE RACIAL EQUITY A PRIORITY IN OREGON'S EARLY EDUCATION SYSTEM. THROUGH THIS COLLECTIVE PROJECT AND CAPACITY-BUILDING ADVOCACY EFFORT, THE COLLABORATIVE AIMS TO ESTABLISH A SUSTAINABLE PARTNERSHIP THAT IS COMMUNITY-BASED AND COMMUNITY-LED.
CHILD CARE SHARED SERVICES ALLIANCE - IN RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND THE MASSIVE DISRUPTIONS CHILD CARE PROVIDERS IN OREGON ENDURED TO THEIR BUSINESSES AND LIVELIHOOD, SVP PORTLAND WORKED WITH PARTNERS IN THE EARLY EDUCATION COMMUNITY AND THE OREGON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (OCF) TO DESIGN A STATEWIDE PILOT FOR A CHILD CARE SHARED SERVICES ALLIANCE (CCSSA). THE FORMATION OF A CCSSA WILL ENABLE CHILDCARE PROVIDERS TO SHARE ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS, BUILD AND SUSTAIN STRONG ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE ABLE TO FOCUS ON THEIR MISSION, CREATE POSITIVE WORK ENVIRONMENTS AND GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES FOR STAFF, AND OFFER HIGH-QUALITY EARLY LEARNING SERVICES. WE CONVENED A GROUP OF TWELVE CHILDCARE PROFESSIONALS FROM ACROSS THE STATE TO DESIGN WHAT THE PROGRAM SHOULD LOOK LIKE, WITH PERSPECTIVES FROM DIFFERENT GEOGRAPHIC, ETHNIC, AND RACIAL BACKGROUNDS. AFTER TEN MEETINGS, THIS GROUP PRODUCED A RECOMMENDATION TO OCF FOR A 2021 PILOT PROGRAM.
