(CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN, WE: 1) EDUCATE AND EMPOWER PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO DEMAND EXCELLENT SCHOOLS; 2) ADVOCATE FOR EFFECTIVE LOCAL, STATE AND NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICIES AND INVESTMENTS; 3) ENSURE THAT POLICIES AND FUNDING WE ADVOCATE FOR REACH CLASSROOMS AND HELP STUDENTS.

THE CENTER FOR HIGH SCHOOL SUCCESS (CHSS) PARTNERS WITH HIGH SCHOOLS COMMITTED TO BECOMING COMMUNITIES WHERE ALL STUDENTS EXCEL ACADEMICALLY, AND RACE AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS DO NOT PREDICT SUCCESS. CHSS ASSISTS PARTNER HIGH SCHOOLS TO SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE NUMBER OF 9TH GRADERS WHO FINISH THE YEAR ON TRACK TO GRADUATE ON TIME WITH TRAINING, COACHING, COLLABORATION, DATA ANALYSIS, AND TOOLS AND RESOURCES. IN FY20, CHSS CONTINUED TO EXPAND, LAUNCHING IN ARIZONA, COLORADO, INDIANA, AND WASHINGTON. IN WASHINGTON AND COLORADO CHSS BEGAN SCHOOL-BASED WORK IN THE 2019-20 SCHOOL YEAR AND INITIAL TRAININGS WERE DONE IN ARIZONA AND INDIANA IN PREPARATION FOR THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)THIS BRINGS CHSS'S SCOPE TO 130 SCHOOLS SERVING OVER 37,000 9TH GRADE STUDENTS. IN RESPONSE TO THE PANDEMIC, ALL TRAINING INSTITUTES, QUARTERLY CONVENINGS, AND COACHING SESSIONS WERE ADAPTED TO A VIRTUAL FORMAT. TO HELP HIGH SCHOOLS BETTER PREPARE FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 9TH GRADE IN A REMOTE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT, A NEW TRAINING ON HOW TO RUN VIRTUAL 9TH GRADE ORIENTATIONS WAS ALSO DEVELOPED.
STAND'S ILLINOIS OFFICE WORKED ON A VARIETY OF EFFORTS THIS YEAR. "READY FOR KINDNESS", A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE FOR CHICAGO TEACHERS WAS DEVELOPED AND EXECUTED. THE ILLINOIS POLICY FELLOWS (TEACHERS, STUDENTS, AND ADMINISTRATORS) RESEARCHED, PRODUCED, AND DISTRIBUTED A REPORT "EXPANDING EQUITY IN DUAL CREDIT". TEACHER HOME VISITS WERE INITIATED AS A NEW PROGRAM CALLED "CONNECTION CONVERSATIONS". STAND ILLINOIS CONTINUED STAND'S TRADITIONAL FAMILY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMMING INCLUDING THE STAND AS ONE PARENT SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING PROGRAM.
STAND'S INDIANA OFFICE CONTINUED ITS PARENT ENGAGEMENT WORK WITH A FOCUS ON IMPROVING SCHOOL QUALITY IN INDIANAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS (IPS). STAFF WORKED WITH PARENTS ON HELPING TWO STRUGGLING SCHOOLS BE APPROVED FOR INNOVATION SCHOOL STATUS BY THE IPS SCHOOL BOARD. STAND INDIANA ALSO OFFERED VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS DURING THE SCHOOL PANDEMIC CLOSURES AND SUPPORTED PARENTS WITH GUIDANCE ON REMOTE SCHOOLING AND ACCESS TO BASIC NEEDS DURING THE PANDEMIC. FINALLY, 29 PARENTS GRADUATED FROM THE STAND UP PROGRAM.
