TRILLIUM CHARTER SCHOOL HAS A STUDENT POPULATION OF APPROXIMATELY 200 STUDENTS, RANGING FROM KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 12TH GRADE. THE SCHOOL IS LOCATED IN URBAN NORTH PORTLAND IN ONE OF THE MOST RACIALLY AND ECONOMICALLY DIVERSE AREAS OF OREGON. THE SCHOOL WAS FOUNDED ON THE PRINCIPLES OF DEMOCRACY AND CONSTRUCTIVISM IN 2001. OUR MISSION IS TO CREATE AN ACADEMICALLY RIGOROUS CONSTRUCTIVIST LEARNING ENVIRONMENT THAT ENGAGES EACH STUDENT'S UNIQUE SPIRIT AND INTELLECT, DEVELOPS CREATIVE, CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS, AND CULTIVATES COMPASSIONATE, ACTIVE CITIZENS. WE STRIVE FOR RESPECTFUL COMMUNICATION AND WORK TO MEDIATE CONFLICTS PEACEFULLY. WE CREATE AND USE COLLABORATIVE LEARNING, PLANNING, AND DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES. ALL MEMBERS OF OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY SUPPORT THE WORK OF OUR SCHOOL BY GIVING GENEROUSLY OF THEIR TIME, RESOURCES AND TALENTS. TRILLIUM BELIEVES PRIMARILY IN PROJECT-ORIENTED AND AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT. EACH STUDENT MUST COMPLETE A SENIOR PROJECT BEFORE GRADUATING THE SCHOOL AND INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS TO MOVE ON FROM LOWER LEVELS. AT ALL LEVELS CONSTRUCTIVISM IS EMPHASIZED, MERGING THE STUDENT'S PASSION AND PERSONAL EXPERTISE WITH LEARNING TARGETS AS OUTLINED IN THE COMMON CORE STANDARDS. TRILLIUM'S HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN REWORKED RECENTLY TO ALIGN WITH PROFICIENCY MODELS AS WELL AS TO INTENTIONALLY ENGAGE IN COMMUNITY LEARNING, REAL WORLD INTERNSHIPS AND SERVICE LEARNING.
