Worker Center Program: Voz operated the MLK Jr. Worker Center, a safe community space where day laborers seek employment, participate in workforce development trainings, and access to labor protections resources. In 2019 we dispatched over 260 day laborers to 3,360 jobs, and connecting them with 1,265 regional employers. Those jobs produced over $363,000 in revenue for the day labor community. We expanded our Workforce Development activities for a total of 266 attendees.
Organizing Program: We offer leadership development trainings, the Leadership School training series, advocacy and know-your-rights trainings, and arts and culture programming to approximately 200 day laborers per year. This program also facilitates the election of the Day Laborer Committee and the monthly General Assemblies, which ensure that day laborers participate in leadership roles and organizational decision making. In partnership with local, state-wide, and nation-wide coalitions, we organize for worker and immigrant rights, ending police-ICE collaboration, and building community defense structures to protect vulnerable communities locally and nationally.
