Sisters Folk Festival is an innovative, year-round nonprofit organization that strengthens community and transforms lives through music and art.
THE SISTERS FOLK FESTIVAL IS A THREE-DAY CELEBRATION OF ROOTS MUSIC, FROM BLUES TOBLUEGRASS. THE FESTIVAL IS A PUBLIC EVENT HELD THE WEEKEND AFTER LABOR DAY EVERYSEPTEMBER IN SISTERS, OREGON. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE LIVE MUSIC ON VARIOUS STAGES FROMSELECT REGIONAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PERFORMERS, AND THE AMERICANA SONGACADEMY. IN CONNECTION WITH THE FESTIVAL, THE ORGANIZATION SPONSORS MY OWN TWO HANDS (ATWO-DAY COMMUNITY CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS FROM PERFORMING TO VISUAL TO THE WRITTENWORD), A TASTE FOR THE ARTS (A PRIVATE CONCERT AND FUNDRAISER), AND A WINTER CONCERTSERIES.Event was cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The americana project is an innovative music and arts education program with broad community outreach held in collaboration between sisters folk festival, creative educational resources and the sisters school district. Classes held each day at all three sisters public schools provide opportunities for self-expression in music and the visual arts. Students learn to play guitar, write songs, perform, record and engineer their own music, and are mentored by national, regional and local guest artists. In addition, students learn to build custom guitars and ukuleles through the community luthier program. The program also provides scholarship opportunities for those students desiring to continue their education in the arts.Event was cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The americana song academy is a teaching camp held over four days immediately preceding the sisters folk festival at the performing arts camp "caldera" on the edge of blue lake in the cascade mountains just outside of Sisters, Oregon. Participants are taught all aspects of music, songwriting, performance and singing by artists performing at the folk festival. Workshop, private concert, open mic and mentor sessions comprise an experience that is intended to encourage and inspire participants to believe in their creativity and to develop a community that supports that pursuit.Event was cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
