Child Sponsorship: Through the child sponsorship program, World's Children sent monetary aid in the amount of $291,103 for the care of approximately 804 children sponsored in 30 orphanages in India, Ethiopia, and Guatemala. This support ensures that children living in the orphanages we support receive nutritious food, clean & warm clothes, medical care, a good education, and a safe and loving environment.Healthy Child and Medical Fund: In 2020, Worlds Children sent $5,956 for childrens health needs. The girls received education and support, supplies, added nutrition, and doctor visits. This successful pilot project began in the fall of 2016. Worlds Children also sent funding for Covid testing, mask and sanitizing supplies including soap, additional food, and protective equipment for nursing students. Worlds Children paid $1,180 for hospital bills for two children and added nutrition funding for one child with special medical needs.Scholarships: Worlds Children aims for successful outcomes through our scholarship program for disadvantaged young men and women. In 2020, Worlds Children provided scholarships for 278 students for a total amount of $144,100 in aid. This includes children who come up through our sponsorship program and other needy students at two nursing colleges where we support the most vulnerable students. The new students totaled 74 with 204 continuing. In 2020, 78 students graduated with degrees in Nursing, Engineering, Banking and Accounting, Computer Technology, Teaching and Vocational Training. Prevention of Child Trafficking Project is a three-year project started in April 2017 with the goal of making villages 100% safe for girls and women by creating community protection. Over this three-year period, the five-member staff educated 120,000 adults and children living in 211 villages, and 12,297 girls and boys in 80 school in this region of Telangana, India. Prevention can be created how traffickers dupe women or simply snatch unwatched girls. The goal was to stop child trafficking in this targeted area, which has a total population of about 151,000 people. A congregation of Catholic nuns is facilitating this project. We have worked with them for several decades and we currently support five orphanages that they operate. The project is so successful, we decided to renew the funding for an additional three years, targeting three districts in Telangana, India with a total population of 393,629 living in both rural and urban areas. In 2020, Worlds Children provided $10,007 for this important project.Projects: Worlds Children also provided $133,008 for special projects to improve the infrastructure at the orphanages we support. These projects positively affected the 804 sponsored children and over 2,600 unsponsored children living at these orphanages and enjoying the benefits of the projects and programs we support. These projects at various orphanages included: one new kitchen, one girls dorm (still under construction), 110 beds for blind children, benches, desks, dining tables, 20 additional beds, 50 mattresses with bedding, computer equipment and projectors, toilets, a security guard room, a shed for water heater, solar powered lights, various remodeling and repairs, new roofs, windows and screens, additional clothing, a water tank, water buffalo, motor scooter, and sewing machines.Coronavirus Relief: Many of the administrators at the 28 orphanages we support in India provided community coronavirus relief in the form of food, medicine and sanitation supplies for poor villagers, children and migrant workers affected by the coronavirus lockdown. Worlds Children provided $17,629 for this relief effort.
