Organizations Filed Purposes:
The Rowena Wildlife Clinic's mission is to provide medical, surgical and rehabilitative care to injured, sick and orphaned wildlife. Our mission also includes educating the public regarding the natural history of wildlife and to promote peaceful coexistence between humans and wild animals. We partner with local feral cat groups to facilitate care, spay/neuter, and vaccines to homeless cats. Our partners foster kittens and adopt out kittens and cats to forever homes.
The organization provides veterinary and rehabilitative services to injured wildlife and homeless pets that cannot be treated in a for-profit veterinary clinic. The organization also facilitates spay, neuter and vaccine care for homeless pets and feral cats.
Wildlife: We received 216 native birds, of which 47% were successfully treated and released back to the wild. We also had 64 mammals as patients, of which 64% were successfully returned to the wild. There were disproportionately high numbers of neonatal mammals vs. injured mammals, so the statistics were more favorable for their successful release. We had several raptors that tested positive for lead exposure due to the lead-shot in animals they consumed. Unfortunately, some did not survive the poisoning.
Cats: Eight volunteers conducted a trap/neuter/return program for feral and colony cats in the Columbia Gorge area. Animals treated include: 300 cats taken to low cost clinics for spay, neuter and vaccines. Many were returned to their caregivers. 170 cats and kittens were fostered and placed in forever homes. 45 cats were placed in barn homes, with thoughtful feeding and care by caregivers.
Education: Due to Covid restrictions, our volunteer did not do any in-person presentations. We did put together an instructional video featuring a trained unreleasable owl. This video was made available to all our regular schools. We also participated in the virtual Eagle watch at The Dalles Dam with USACE.
