AT BDS, ACCESS IS ADVOCACY THAT ENSURES THAT ALL CHILDREN HAVE EQUITABLE OPPORTUNITIES TO TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF THEIR EDUCATION. FACTORS SUCH AS RACE, RELIGION, GENDER, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, DISABILITY, PERCEIVED INTELLECTUAL ABILITY, PAST ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, SPECIAL-EDUCATION STATUS, ENGLISH-LANGUAGE ABILITY, AND FAMILY INCOME OR EDUCATIONAL-ATTAINMENT LEVELS, IN ADDITION TO FACTORS SUCH AS RELATIVE COMMUNITY AFFLUENCE, GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION, OR SCHOOL FACILITIES, MAY CONTRIBUTE TO CERTAIN STUDENTS HAVING LESS "ACCESS" TO EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES THAN OTHER STUDENTS. AT BDS, ACCESS SERVICES FALL INTO TWO PRIMARY AREAS: CLINICAL ARGUMENT, AND REFERRAL. BDS PROVIDED CLINICAL ARGUMENT AND CONNECTED 25 FAMILIES WITH SERVICES THROUGH REFERRAL.OCCASIONALLY, FAMILIES FEEL THAT THEIR CHILD'S BEHAVIOR IS INADEQUATELY ASSESSED BY SCHOOL OFFICIALS OR MEDICAL INSURANCE COMPANIES AND THUS THE CHILD HAS BEEN PROVIDED FEWER RESOURCES OR SERVICES THAN THE FAMILY FEELS IS NECESSARY. CLINICAL ARGUMENT IS AN EVALUATIVE SERVICE THAT MAY PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION OR ASSESSMENTS TO AID AND ASSIST THESE FAMILIES IN GAINING ACCESS TO THE SERVICES THEIR CHILD REQUIRES. FOLLOWING BDS'S CLINICAL ARGUMENT, SERVICES ARE FUNDED BY MEDICAL INSURANCE, SCHOOL OR THE FAMILY. REFERRAL IS A SUB-SERVICE OF ACCESS THAT PROVIDES TIMELY REFERRAL TO SERVICES THAT ARE OFTEN EITHER DIFFICULT TO ACCESS OR FOR WHICH THE WAIT WOULD BE DETRIMENTAL TO THE CHILD.
