WE CONTINUED OUR WORK WITH NON-PROFITS AND DECISION MAKERS ACROSS THE US ON A STRATEGY TO IMPLEMENT CSES PROPOSED FOSSIL FUEL RISK BOND PROGRAM.2. WE WORKED WITH FRONTLINE COMMUNITIES AND OTHER PARTNERS IN PORTLAND, OREGON TO RESIST NEW AND EXPANDED FOSSIL FUEL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS.
WILD AND WORKING FORESTS THROUGH ITS WILD AND WORKING FORESTS PROGRAM, CSE ADVOCATES FOR PROTECTION AND RESTORATION OF ALL NATIVE FOREST ECOSYSTEMS ON FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL PUBLIC LANDS BECAUSE OF THEIR ROLE IN CAPTURING AND STORING CARBON, FILTERING CLEAN WATER, SUPPORTING OUTDOOR RECREATION, SUSTAINING BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY AND SUPPLYING MANY OTHER ECOSYSTEM GOODS AND SERVICES. ON PRIVATE LANDS, WE BELIEVE THAT STATE FOREST PRACTICES STATUTES AND RULES SHOULD CREATE THE ENABLING CONDITIONS FOR SUSTAINABLY MANAGED FORESTS THAT ARE PUT TO WORK EARNING LANDOWNERS MULTIPLE REVENUE STREAMS FROM WOOD PRODUCTS AND NON-TIMBER GOODS AND SERVICES BUT IN A MANNER THAT PROTECTS PUBLIC TRUST RESOURCES INCLUDING SOIL PRODUCTIVITY, WATER, WILDLIFE, FISH AND A STABLE CLIMATE. KEY ACTIVITIES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2020 INCLUDED:1. WE PUBLISHED RESEARCH EXPOSING THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF INDUSTRIAL LOGGING ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND RURAL ECONOMIES.2. WE MONITORED AND OPPOSED THREATS TO DRINKING WATER CAUSED BY INDUSTRIAL LOGGING ACTIVITIES.3. WE ORGANIZED A COALITION TO OFFER EXPERT RECOMMENDATIONS ON HOW THE STATE OF OREGON CAN BEST IMPLEMENT GOVERNOR BROWN'S EXECUTIVE ORDER ON CLIMATE CHANGE.4. WE CO-DIRECTED THE FOREST CARBON COALITION, A NATIONAL NETWORK OF CONSERVATION AND SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATIONS ADVOCATING FOR CLIMATE SMART FOREST PRACTICES.
NEW MEASURES OF PROGRESS CSE WORKS INTERNATIONALLY TO DEVELOP NEW MEASURES OF ECONOMIC PROGRESS THAT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION, INEQUALITY, AND FACTORS THAT JEOPARDIZE QUALITY OF LIFE. WE SPECIALIZE IN THE GENUINE PROGRESS INDICATOR AND ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT AND CONTINUE TO MAKE SCIENTIFIC ADVANCES TO THESE MEASURES AND DEMONSTRATE HOW THEY CAN BE USED IN POLICY SETTINGS.
