IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, GIRL SCOUTS OF THE NORTHWESTERN GREAT LAKES, INC. (GSNWGL) SERVED MORE THAN 12,300 GIRLS THROUGH THE TROOP PATHWAY. THESE GIRLS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE A SERIES OF PROGRAMS WITH THE SAME GROUP OF GIRLS OVER THE COURSE OF AN ACADEMIC YEAR. TROOP ACTIVITIES ARE GIRL-LED AND INVOLVE COOPERATIVE LEARNING AND LEARNING BY DOING. POPULAR ACTIVITIES INCLUDE COMMUNITY SERVICE, WORKING GSUSA JOURNEYS CURRICULUM, AND BADGE AND PATCH WORK. BADGES, PATCHES, GSUSA JOURNEYS CURRICULUM BOOKS, AND OTHER ITEMS ARE SOLD THROUGH OUR COUNCIL SHOPS TO SUPPORT THE TROOP PATHWAY LEADERS. THIS YEAR, 83% OF TROOP LEADERS REPORTED THAT THEIR TROOP TOOK PART IN A COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT, 76% OF GIRLS REPORTED THAT, AS MEMBERS OF GIRL SCOUTS, THEY INCREASED THEIR CONFIDENCE AND GAINED A STRONGER SENSE OF SELF-WORTH, AND 65% REPORTED THEY GAINED POSITIVE VALUES.

EACH OF THE PROGRAMS FOCUS ON A TOPIC THAT RESEARCH SHOWS GIRLS ARE INTERESTED IN OR WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT. THE PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED TO ALL GRADE LEVELS, AND SESSIONS DURING THE EVENT ARE BROKEN UP BY GRADE LEVEL TO ENSURE THAT EACH GIRL IS PARTICIPATING IN A PROGRAM THAT WILL BENEFIT HER. REACHING OUT PATHWAYS ARE SIMILAR IN STRUCTURE, BUT ARE OFFERED AT SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY CENTERS, AND OTHER FACILITIES WHERE GIRLS WOULD BENEFIT FROM GS PROGRAMMING. EVENTS AND REACHING OUT ARE BUILT AROUND THE FOUR PILLARS THAT FORM THE FOUNDATION OF THE GIRL SCOUT LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE: OUTDOORS, STEM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH), LIFE SKILLS, AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP. 96% OF PARTICIPANTS REPORTED THAT EVENTS AND REACHING OUT PROGRAMMING HELPED THEM DEVELOP POSITIVE VALUES, LEARN TO ACT ETHICALLY, HONESTLY, RESPONSIBLY, AND EMPATHETICALLY, AND 86% REPORTED THAT THEY LEARNED HOW TO DEVELOP HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS.

IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, GIRL SCOUTS CHANGED THE LOOK OF CAMP PROGRAMMING IN RESPONSE TO THE GROWING CONCERNS OF COVID-19 TRANSMISSION. GSNWGL OFFERED A FREE, VIRTUAL-BASED CAMP THAT BROUGHT GIRLS TOGETHER TO EXPERIENCE FUN IN THEIR OWN BACKYARDS AND TO LEARN ABOUT THE PRINCIPLES OF THE "LEAVE NO TRACE" PROGRAM. LAST SUMMER, OVER 500 GIRLS PARTICIPATED IN VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMP OPPORTUNITIES. THE CAMP PATHWAY OFFERS AMPLE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, AS WELL AS OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERSONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT. THIS YEAR, 90% OF GIRLS WHO ATTENDED OUR VIRTUAL "HAPPY CAMP'IN" SESSIONS REPORTED THEY HAVE A POSITIVE CAMP EXPERIENCE.
