Organizations Filed Purposes:
To protect, including by acquisition, North Pikes Creek wetland properties for conservation purposes and community benefit. To enhance public access to provide nature-based recreational and education use of a portion of the conservation property. To increase public awareness of the ecological importance of wetlands for water quality and wildlife. To use as a community asset and educational resource in order to nurture the next generation of environmental stewards.
Creation of Beaver Hollow, a universally accessible outdoor nature area. In 2020, 600' of accessible boardwalk, benches every 100', an informational kiosk, bat houses, and interpretive signage was added to the facility. The fully handicapped accessible venue serves the outdoor educational and recreational needs of people of all ages and physical abilities in our community.
Land acquisition expense. The FNPCW purchased a North Pikes Creek 10-acre wetland parcel under threat of fragmentation and conversion to non-conservation purposes to permanently protect its conservation values.
Educational Programs and Events: The FNPCW engaged in educational outreach at the local school and in the community, sponsored events at the Beaver Hollow Nature Center and at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center, to increase public awareness of the importance of wetlands in the ecosystem, and to encourage the protection of wetlands and waterways.
