THE PENINSULA SCHOOL OF ART PROVIDES ENRICHING, EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES TO PARTICIPANTS OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES THAT BROADEN INDIVIDUAL PERSPECTIVES, AND FOSTERS A COMMUNITY DEDICATED TO THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF THE VISUAL ARTS.
PROVIDE ENRICHMENT/EDUCATIONAL VISUAL ART EXPERIENCES TO BROADEN INDIVIDUAL PERSPECTIVES.
THROUGH OUR EDUCATION PROGRAMS, ADULTS, TEENS, CHILDREN AND FAMILIES, NOVICE TO ADVANCED - FROM AROUND THE CORNER, AND AROUND THE COUNTRY, EXPLORE NEW IDEAS, ACQUIRE NEW SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES, AND BUILD CONFIDENCE IN THE VISUAL ARTS. WORKSHOPS ARE OFFERED IN ALL TWO- AND THREE-DIMENSIONAL MEDIA INCLUDING: PAINTING, DRAWING, PRINTMAKING, MIXED MEDIA, WATERCOLOR, CERAMICS, METAL ARTS, SCULPTURE, DIGITAL ARTS, AND PHOTOGRAPHY, AS WELL AS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR EMERGING ARTISTS. IN 2020, DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, PENINSULA SCHOOL OF ART WAS FORCED TO CANCEL THE MAJORITY OF IN-PERSON WORKSHOPS. FOR ADULT LEARNERS, WE MOVED OUR FREE MONTHLY CRITIQUE GROUP ONLINE - SERVING OVER 180 PARTICIPANTS IN 2020. ALSO DURING THE PANDEMIC A DISTANT MENTORSHIP INITIATIVE WAS LAUNCHED, SERVING 10 ASPIRING ARTISTS AND CONNECTING THEM WITH A SELECT GROUP OF INSTRUCTORS FOR ONE-ON-ONE COACHING VIA ZOOM. WE OFFERED A REGULAR CALENDAR OF WEEKLY POSTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA THAT INCLUDED ONLINE CREATIVITY PROMPTS FOR ARTISTS AND EDUCATIONAL CONTENT ON BASIC ART MAKING SKILLS. THESE POSTS REACHED OVER 40,000 INDIVIDUALS IN 2020.
PENINSULA SCHOOL OF ART'S PUBLIC PROGRAMS PROVIDE ACCESSIBLE ART EXPERIENCES AND FREE EXHIBITIONS TO PERSONS OF ALL AGES AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS, FROM SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN, TO ASPIRING ARTISTS, FAMILIES AND UNDER-SERVED COMMUNITIES. THESE PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED TO LOCAL RESIDENTS AND VISITORS ALIKE AND ARE DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE LONG-TERM PARTICIPATION IN VISUAL ARTS. IN 2020, DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, PENINSULA SCHOOL OF ART WAS FORCED TO CANCEL THE MAJORITY OF IN-PERSON PUBLIC PROGRAMS AND EXHIBITIONS. OUR FREE MONTHLY CONVERSATIONS ON CREATIVITY PROGRAM FOR ARTISTS, MAKERS AND APPRECIATORS WAS MOVED ONLINE. DURING 2020, OVER 200 PARTICIPANTS JOINED VIA ZOOM TO EXPLORE CREATIVITY AND HOW THE CREATIVE PROCESS WORKS, AESTHETICS, THE ART MARKET AND INSPIRING ARTISTS. WE ALSO LAUNCHED AN ONLINE SERIES OF MINI-ARTIST TALKS AND LUNCHTIME LECTURES, WHICH WERE AVAILABLE LIVE VIA ZOOM AND ARCHIVED FOR LATER VIEWING ON OUR WEBSITE. THESE TALKS HAVE BEEN VIEWED OVER 1,000 TIMES. FOR OUR YOUNGEST AUDIENCES, WE PROVIDED NEARLY 1,000 PICK UP ART KITS AND INSTRUCTION, SO CHILDREN AND FAMILIES COULD CREATE ART TOGETHER AT HOME. FINALLY, OUR GALLERY REOPENED IN MID-AUGUST AND SERVED APPROXIMATELY 500 IN-PERSON VISITORS THROUGH THE END OF 2020.
