THE WHA FOUNDATION, INC. WAS FORMED TO CARRY ON EDUCATIONAL, LITERARY, RESEARCH, AND CHARITABLE PROGRAM RELATED TO THE FIELD OF HEALTH, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO HOSPITAL CARE AND ADMINISTRATION, WITH THE FOLLOWING SPECIFIC OBJECTS: TO ASSIST THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM IN INSURING THAT IT HAS ADEQUATE WORKFORCE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF WISCONSIN'S CITIZENS; TO CONDUCT AND SPONSOR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS OF ALL TYPES FOR TRAINING OF HEALTH CAREER PERSONNEL AND CONSUMERS INTERESTED IN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM; TO FOSTER THE ACCUMULATION AND EXCHANGE OF HEALTH INFORMATION AND TO PUBLISH AND DISSEMINATE SUCH INFORMATION; TO ASSIST, SPONSOR, AND ENCOURAGE INDIVIDUALS PURSUING AN EDUCATION IN HEALTH CAREERS, SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, AND LITERARY ENDEAVOR BY PROVIDING SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS-IN-AID OR MAKING LOANS TO WORTHY INDIVIDUALS IN PURSUIT OF THESE OBJECTS; TO SUPPORT THE MISSION OF WISCONSIN HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION, INC. AND ITS AFFILIATED RELATED ORGANIZATIONS.

HEALTH CARE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT - ADDRESSING THE WORKFORCE NEEDS OF WISCONSIN HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS HAS BEEN A FOCUS OF THE FOUNDATION OVER THE PAST DECADE. MOST RECENTLY, THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED FUNDING TO DEVELOP, LAUNCH AND MAINTAIN THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (BSN) COMPLETION PROGRAM (WEBSITE HTTP://BSN.WHA.ORG). THIS SITE PROVIDES NURSES LOOKING TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP IN THEIR EDUCATION AND MOVE FROM AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE TO A BACHELOR'S DEGREE WITH ONE, ONLINE LOCATION TO LEARN MORE ABOUT EACH BSN COMPLETION PROGRAM THAT RECRUITS AND ENROLLS WISCONSIN NURSES. THE FOUNDATION ALSO SUPPORTS THE ANNUAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARS PROGRAM, PROVIDING TWO ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIPS TO EACH OF THE 16 TECHNICAL COLLEGES IN WISCONSIN. THE UNIQUE TWIST IS THE SCHOLARSHIP COVERS EXPENSES INCURRED IN THE STUDENT'S FINAL SEMESTER, TO ASSIST AND ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO MAKE THAT ONE FINAL PUSH TOWARD GRADUATION AND A CAREER IN HEALTH CARE. SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 2003, MORE THAN 475 SCHOLARSHIPS HAVE BEEN AWARDED, WORTH MORE THAN $700,000.
PROGRAM FUNDING FOCUSED ON HEALTH CARE QUALITY & SAFETY INITIATIVES, HEALTH CARE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES, AND COLLABORATIVE COMMUNITY HEALTH INITIATIVES THAT HAVE A STATEWIDE IMPACT:HEALTH CARE QUALITY & SAFETY INITIATIVES - THE FOUNDATION HAS SUPPORTED A VARIETY OF QUALITY AND SAFETY INITIATIVES FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS, STARTING WITH THE FUNDING TO DEVELOP, LAUNCH AND UPGRADE CHECKPOINT, THE FIRST PUBLIC WEBSITE TO PROVIDE CONSUMERS WITH CLINICAL QUALITY MEASURES AND ERROR PREVENTION PRACTICES FOR ALL HOSPITALS IN WISCONSIN. MOST RECENTLY, IN 2014, THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED FUNDING FOR START-UP COSTS AND FIVE PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE QUALITY RESIDENCY PROGRAM, CO-SPONSORED BY WISCONSIN HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION (WHA) AND THE RURAL WISCONSIN HEALTH COOPERATIVE. THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO ENGAGE NEW AND NOVICE HOSPITAL QUALITY IMPROVEMENT DIRECTORS IN A TWO-YEAR TRACK OF EDUCATION, LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND NETWORKING. IN ADDITION, BEGINNING IN 2016, THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED FUNDING FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM TO COVER THE COST OF HOSPITAL TEAMS PARTICIPATING IN SIMULATION TRAINING AT ONE OF FIVE PARTNERING SIMULATION LABS IN WISCONSIN. IN 2016, ALL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS FOCUSED ON OB-RELATED SCENARIOS. THE PROGRAM CONTINUES INTO 2017, WITH ALL RECIPIENTS FOCUSING ON SEVERE SEPSIS/SEPTIC SHOCK SCENARIOS OR ON PEDIATRIC TRAUMA SCENARIOS.COLLABORATIVE COMMUNITY HEALTH INITIATIVES - THE WHA FOUNDATION SUPPORTS COMMUNITY HEALTH INITIATIVES CREATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH WHA MEMBERS THROUGH ITS ANNUAL GLOBAL VISION COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP AWARD. THIS AWARD WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1993 WITH THE INTENTION OF PROVIDING RECOGNITION AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO INNOVATIVE AND COLLABORATIVE INITIATIVES THAT MEET A COMMUNITY'S HEALTH NEEDS. A TOTAL OF 50 GLOBAL VISION AWARDS HAVE BEEN PRESENTED SINCE ITS INCEPTION, AND THE AWARD INCLUDES A $2,500 UNRESTRICTED GRANT FOR EACH WINNING INITIATIVE.
