Organizations Filed Purposes: To collect data and conducts analysis to describe, explore, and test conflict scenarios, and makes both data and analysis open for free use by the public.

The Organization collects the data on the location, date, actors, fatalities, and types of all reported political violence and protest events across Africa, South Asia, South East Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Latin America. The Organizations aim is to capture the forms, actors, dates and locations of political violence and protest as it occurs across states. The Organization receives most of its funding from grants from government agencies and foundations.Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations (CSO):Description of Project Objectives : ACLED (Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project) provides for public use real-time data on all reported acts of political violence, instability and protest occurring in developing states. Information is recorded on the specific events, dates, locations, fatalities and agents of political violence, based on locally and nationally sourced information from a variety of sources. This project proposes to continue data coverage in Africa and South Asia, and expand coverage to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Central Asia and Eurasia. The analysis will be complemented with training and technical assistance to personnel in developing countries experiencing conflict or at risk of conflict. Target Audience : ACLED data will be used by analysts and conflict monitors around the world governmental, academic, think tanks, etc. - to analyze conflict patterns and trends. These data enhance their ability to design improved policy interventions. Key Activities : Through this project, ACLED will also expand: the coverage of its monthly conflict trend reports, which highlight new patterns of conflict across affected states; country and subject reports, which specifically address violence occurring in one region or on a specific theme across countries; visualization capabilities for data users; and extensive data use training, capacity building and conflict analysis workshop opportunities in conflict affected states. Beneficiaries could include, but not be limited to, such entities as: the African Union and African Development Bank, Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy, Africa Center for Strategic Studies, Jinnah Institute Pakistan, Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies, Counseling Services Unit of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Peace Project, Research and Analysis-Zimbabwe.German Federal Foreign Office (FFO):1) Realtime data collection on political violence and protest + one year of historical data collection : for countries in Central Asia, East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Middle East and select countries in Eastern Europe. 2) Analysis & Methodolog y: advancements of ACLED methodology with special focus on development of Conflict Pulse as a tool for early warning. The Conflict Pulse can be used to assess the change in direction and intensity of conflict events in the world's most disordered states. This tool can be used to understand several different conflict forms based on interaction or event types. The Conflict Pulse can be used to identify increased risk of government repression; where civilian risk is high; where there are threats to the government; shifts in the number of non-state, armed, organized groups that may be active; and changes to demonstration dynamics. Finally, the Conflict Pulse intends to design common trajectories and patterns to political instability sequences. These will detail the common paths from protest or low order political violence to intense conflict. These will then be tested for applicability across multiple contexts for use in early warning. 3) Expert Workshop in Berlin.Dutch Ministry of Forein Affairs (MFA):In this 30-month project, ACLED was provided with a grant by the DFM to help inform debate and policy on conflict prevention and stabilisation. To contribute towards this goal, the project had four objectives: Objective 1 : Collect realtime and historical political violence and protest data on existing and new ACLED countries. Objective 2 : Foster the collection of high quality, local data on political violence and protest and its integration into the ACLED dataset. Objective 3 : Produce robust, timely and policy relevant analysis on political violence and protest in ACLED countries. Objective 4 : Increase and improve use of ACLED data by policymakers and practitioners.
