LITTLE FREE LIBRARY BOOK EXCHANGE NETWORKOUR CORE MISSION IS TO PROMOTE LITERACY AND THE LOVE OF READING BY BUILDING FREE NEIGHBORHOOD BOOK EXCHANGES. COMMUNITY AND READING MOTIVATION PROGRAMSTHESE PROGRAMS EXPAND THE IMPACT OF PHYSICAL BOOK EXCHANGES WITH PURPOSEFUL ACTIVITIES THAT EXPAND BOOK ACCESS, ENCOURAGE READING HABITS, AND INCREASE NEIGHBORLINESS. WHILE THESE ACTIVITIES ARE APPROPRIATE FOR ANY LITTLE FREE LIBRARY LOCATION, THESE PROGRAMS PARTICULARLY SERVE THOSE COMMUNITIES THAT WISH TO STRENGTHEN LITERACY AND COMMUNITY. THE CORE PROGRAM INCLUDES GROWING THE BOOK-SHARING MOVEMENT; DEVELOPING ACTIVITIES THAT STIMULATE NEIGHBORLY CONNECTIONS; AND SUPPORTING THE NETWORK OF VOLUNTEER STEWARDS WHO PROVIDE THE DAY-TO-DAY MANAGEMENT AND CURATION OF EACH LITTLE LIBRARY.
IMPACT FUNDTHE IMPACT LIBRARY PROGRAM PLACES BOOK EXCHANGES IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES, WHERE THEY CAN BE A CATALYST FOR IMPROVING READING MOTIVATION AND DEEPENING COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS. PROGRAM FUNDING COMES FROM CONTRIBUTED REVENUE AND FROM THE ORGANIZATION'S RETAIL SALES AND LIBRARY REGISTRATION FEES. THE IMPACT LIBRARY PROGRAM PLACES BOOK-SHARING BOXES IN THE HANDS OF COMMITTED STEWARDS WHERE THERE ARE LIMITED RESOURCES AND PROVIDING AN IMPACT LIBRARY WILL PROVIDE MEANINGFUL OUTCOMES TO THE COMMUNITY. A MONTHLY APPLICATION REVIEW PROCESS AND INSTALLATION FOLLOW-UP ESTABLISHES A CONNECTION BETWEEN LIBRARY RECIPIENTS AND THE LITTLE FREE LIBRARY COMMUNITY. RECIPIENTS OF IMPACT LIBRARIES ARE ASKED TO COMMIT TO SETTING UP AND MAINTAINING THE LIBRARY FOR ONE YEAR; TAKING A PICTURE AND SHARING ITS STORY; AND HOLDING AT LEAST ONE READING OR NEIGHBORHOOD ACTIVITY IN THE FIRST YEAR. OUR KIDS, COMMUNITY & COPS INITIATIVE, WHICH CONNECTS LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WITH THE COMMUNITIES THEY SERVE, HAS BEEN ROLLED INTO THE IMPACT LIBRARY PROGRAM.OUR NATIVE LIBRARY INITIATIVE PLACES LITTLE FREE LIBRARY BOOK EXCHANGES IN TRIBAL COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE NATION TO MEANINGFULLY IMPROVE BOOK ACCESS. TO DATE LFL HAS PROVIDED MORE THAN 60 LIBRARIES TO TRIBAL COMMUNITIES, WHERE YOUTH REGULARLY POST THE LOWEST READING ACHIEVEMENT SCORES IN THE NATION. TO PLACE THE LIBRARIES, LITTLE FREE LIBRARY WORKS WITH NATIVE COMMUNITY LEADERS AND PARTNERS INCLUDING THE ASSOCIATION OF TRIBAL ARCHIVES, LIBRARIES, & MUSEUMS. THE NATIVE LIBRARY INITIATIVE IS A BRANCH OF THE IMPACT LIBRARY PROGRAM THAT IS SEPARATED OUT TO BETTER SERVE THE NATIVE COMMUNITY.IN A TWIST ON THE TRADITIONAL BOOK CLUB, LITTLE FREE LIBRARY'S ACTION BOOK CLUB INVITES PARTICIPANTS TO READ BOOKS ON TIMELY TOPICS, ENGAGE IN LIVELY DISCUSSIONS, AND TAKE PART IN MEANINGFULAND FUNGROUP SERVICE PROJECTS TO BENEFIT THEIR COMMUNITIES. THIS IS READING AND SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT AT ITS BEST. WHEN ACTION BOOK CLUB MEMBERS SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES ONLINE, THEY HELP START A RIPPLE EFFECT OF POSITIVE ACTIVITY ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND AROUND THE WORLD. EXISTING BOOK CLUBS PARTICIPATE, AND SO DO SCHOOL CLASSROOMS AND OTHER GROUPS. LITTLE FREE LIBRARY PROVIDES THEMES, RECOMMENDED READING, AND ACCESS TO BOOKS.THEMED LIBRARIES BRING ATTENTION TO SPECIAL SUBJECT MATTER. THOUGH A THEMED LIBRARY MAY OFFER A VARIETY OF BOOKS SERVING MANY INTERESTS, THE MAJORITY OF ITS BOOKS ARE CENTERED ON A SINGLE TOPIC.
