Organizations Filed Purposes:
KENOSHA YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION, INC. IS A COMMUNITY BASED RECREATIONAL AGENCY. ORGANIZED IN 1930, THE MAJOR EMPHASIS OF THE AGENCY IS ON YOUTH ACTIVITIES, FAMILY DEVELOPMENT AND PHYSICAL FITNESS STRUCTURED TO DEVELOP POSITIVE ATTITUDES, PHYSICAL HEALTH AND LEADERSHIP CAPABILITIES.
YOUTH & FAMILY - IN 2014 THE YOUTH & FAMILY DEPARTMENT, FORMALLY KNOWN AS CHILD DEVELOPMENT, HAD A TOTAL ENROLLMENT OF 1,591 CHILDREN IN OUR LICENSED CHILDREN CARE PROGRAMS. ON AVERAGE OVER 213 CHILDREN WERE SERVED DAILY IN 6 BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL AND 1 PRESCHOOL SITES. ONE OUT OF SEVEN CHILDREN SERVED, RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS THROUGH THE KENOSHA YMCA JOHN & JUDY WAVRO SCHOLARSHIP FUND OR THE WISCONSIN WORKS PROGRAM. NEW PROGRAMS WERE IMPLEMENTED INCLUDING SCHEDULED "THEME DAYS" SUCH AS LITERACY, HEALTH & SAFETY, YMCA PRIDE AND CORE VALUES, AND COMMUNITY SERVICE. ALSO OFFERED ARE INSTRUCTIONAL DANCE AND BASKETBALL AT THE BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL SITES. TEAMING WITH THE KENOSHA COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, THE KENOSHA YMCA REACHES OUT TO KENOSHA'S INNER CITY FAMILIES IN THE FRANK NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECT WITH ACTIVITIES AND TRAINING IN LIFE SKILLS THAT WILL ENABLE THEM TO LEAD RESPONSIBLE LIVES.
MEMBERSHIP - THE KENOSHA YMCA MEMBERSHIP ENDED 2014 AT 9,543 INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS INCLUDING YOUTH, ADULTS, FAMILIES AND SENIORS. THE KENOSHA YMCA IS OPEN 4,945 HOURS PER YEAR AND SERVES AN AVERAGE OF 1,500 PEOPLE PER DAY. KID'S CLUB, DROP-IN CHILD CARE IS ALSO OFFERED FREE TO 6,049 MEMBERS; OPEN A TOTAL OF 2,168 HOURS PER YEAR SERVE AN AVERAGE OF 37 CHILDREN DAILY. MEMBERS CAN ALSO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF 288 FREE CLASSES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. BY ATTENDING NUMEROUS COMMUNITY AND CORPORATE EVENTS FOR 2014, THE KENOSHA YMCA ADDED 2 NEW CORPORATE CUSTOMERS AND SEVERAL INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIPS. THE JOHN & JUDY WAVRO SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ALLOWS PEOPLE WHO COULD NOT NORMALLY AFFORD A MEMBERSHIP THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN ALL YMCA PROGRAMS AND EVENTS. IN 2014, SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TO 1,905 PEOPLE TOTALING OVER $307,116. IN RESPONSE TO THE STRESSFUL ECONOMIC TIMES, THE KENOSHA YMCA OFFERED HALLOWEEN & CHRISTMAS SPECIAL EVENTS FREE TO THE PUBLIC, SERVING FOOD, ACTIVITIES AND FAMILY FUN TO OVER 400 MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY.
AQUATICS - IN 2014, THE KENOSHA YMCA OFFERED OVER 516 CLASSES IN TWO POOLS. OUR INSTRUCTIONAL AQUATICS CLASSES TAUGHT OVER 1,621 PARTICIPANTS NOT ONLY IN SWIMMING SKILLS, BUT SKILLS THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO ENJOY ACTIVITES THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES, INCLUDING PERSONAL SAFETY AND SURVIVAL AND RESCUE SKILLS AS WELL AS WATER SPORTS AND GAMES. OVER 20 FRANK NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECT PARTICIPANTS WERE ALSO GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN THESE SKILLS AT NO CHARGE TO THEIR FAMILIES. WE OFFERED WARM WATER THERAPY CLASSES, HELPING 451 PEOPLE TO MOVE FREELY AND ENJOY LIFE AGAIN.
