Organizations Filed Purposes: LA CROSSE PROMISE IS A CATALYST FOR COMMUNITY VITALITY THROUGH EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY. WE ARE A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION WORKING TO ECONOMICALLY TRANSFORM THE CITY OF LA CROSSE AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE THROUGH A COMMITMENT TO STRONG EDUCATION AND NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION.

LA CROSSE PROMISES FLAGSHIP PROGRAM IS THE FUTURE CENTERS, WHICH ARE ADVISING OFFICES HOUSED IN LOGAN AND CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOLS. THE OVER-ARCHING GOAL OF FUTURE CENTERS IS TO CONNECT STUDENTS AND FAMILIES TO RESOURCES FOR ACHIEVING THEIR POST-HIGH SCHOOL GOALS. WE FOCUS ON ACADEMIC AND CAREER PLANNING, WITH AN EMPHASIS ON STUDENTS EXPERIENCING BARRIERS TO SUCCESS. WITH AN EMPHASIS ON INDIVIDUAL ADVISING, WE AIM TO BREAK DOWN THOSE BARRIERS FOR ALL STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF LA CROSSE. WE CURRENTLY REACH 90% OF THE SCHOOL POPULATION BY THE TIME THEY GRADUATE. FUTURE CENTERS ARE SUPPORTED BY A FORMAL COLLABORATION WITH THE DISTRICT, AIMED AT FILLING A NEED FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER ADVISING. OTHER GOALS OF FUTURE CENTERS INCLUDE FOCUSED OUTREACH AND ATTENTION FOR STUDENTS OF LOW- SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS, STUDENTS OF COLOR, IMMIGRANT FAMILIES, AND FIRST-GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENTS. FUTURE CENTER ADVISORS AVERAGE ABOUT 3,000 POINTS OF CONTACT WITH STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOLYEAR AND DURING THE PAST TWO YEARS, THEY HAVE HELPED STUDENTS EARN MORE THAN 1 MILLION IN EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS.

IN THE FALL OF 2015, LA CROSSE PROMISE LAUNCHED A PLACE-BASED SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, SEVERAL EDUCATION-MINDED FAMILIES WILL RECEIVE EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS FOR ESTABLISHING RESIDENCY IN A LA CROSSES MOST DISTRESSED NEIGHBORHOODS. IN EXCHANGE FOR NEW HOUSING ACTIVITY IN OUR TARGETING NEIGHBORHOODS, FAMILIES CAN RECEIVE UP TO 50,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS. THE AREAS TARGETED FOR REVITALIZATION EXPERIENCE HIGH CONCENTRATIONS OF POVERTY, RUNDOWN RENTALS, AND DEPRESSED HOME VALUES. WE BELIEVE THAT EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO A STRONG COMMUNITY AND THAT AN EDUCATION INCENTIVE TARGETED AT THESE NEIGHBORHOODS WILL LEAD TO AN INFUSION OF EDUCATION-MINDED CITIZENS, ADDING STABILITY TO THE AREA. THE INITATIVE AIMS TO 1) CREATE A STRONG CULTURE OF EDUCATION IN THE COMMUNITY, WITH THE ABILITY TO ATTRACT A HIGH-QUALITY WORKFORCE AND RETAIN THEM; 2) GROW POST-SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES; 3) REDUCE DECLINE OF ENROLLMENT OF STUDENTS IN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF LA CROSSE 4) REJUVINATE THE FALTERING HOUSING MARKET IN PORTIONS OF THE CITY OF LA CROSSE. AT THE END OF FY2019, THERE WERE 20 LA CROSSE PROMISE HOMES, REPRESENTING 22 CHILDREN ALREADY IN SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT OR SOON TO ENROLL. MOST OF THESE HOMES WERE VACANT LOTS OR CONDEMNED PROPERTIES. THE TOTAL NEW CONSTRUCTION SO FAR HAS BEEN MORE THAN 6 MILLION, ADDING NEARLY 3 MILLION IN TAXABLE VALUE TO THE CITY.
