Access to Independence, Inc. is a non-profit, consumer controlled Independent Living Center (ILC) that provides an array of services to people of all ages with all types of disabilities in Dane, Columbia, Green, and Dodge counties in south-central Wisconsin.
Independent living services- During 2019, 321 individuals were provided services that included at least one goal related to topics such as housing, skills training, assistive technology, and advocacy. Access was able to provide 1,289 individuals with information and referral services, where information and resources were provided on a variety of topics. Over 20,000 individuals were involved with community-impact services such as education, systems-change advocacy, and outreach. Nearly 1,100 hours of these activities were provided by the agency.
Access to Independence continued to partner with the State of Wisconsins Department of Health Services to deliver services for the Certified Peer Specialist, and Certified Parent Peer Specialist Initiative. Collaboration to provide test sites around the state was conducted in partnership with the other independent living centers in Wisconsin. Certified Peer Specialist Exam Trainings were provided around the state, and trainers from around the state conducted the trainings.
The Assistive Technology Device Demonstration and Loan program, funded by the Wistech and USF grants, assisted individuals services that educate people with disabilities about the benefits of technology in reducing barriers to independent living, employment, and education. Services also included: assistance with acquiring devices, applying for funding assistance for acquisition, and set-up and training on devices for successful use.
