Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF THE ASSOCIATION OF STATE FLOODPLAIN MANAGERS, INC. IS TO PROMOTE EDUCATION, POLICIES AND ACTIVITIES THAT MITIGATE CURRENT AND FUTURE LOSSES, COSTS AND HUMAN SUFFERING CAUSED BY FLOODING, AND TO PROTECT THE NATURAL AND BENEFICIAL FUNCTIONS OF FLOODPLAINS - ALL WITHOUT CAUSING ADVERSE IMPACTS

DEDICATED TO REDUCING FLOOD RISK, FLOOD LOSSES, AND HUMAN SUFFERING WHILE PROTECTING THE NATURAL AND BENEFICIAL FUNCTIONS OF FLOODPLAINS.

FLOOD SCIENCE CENTER--PROVIDES RESEARCH TO APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT TO EDUCATION/OUTREACH AND PROMOTES MORE EFFECTIVE FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT AT FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL LEVELS.PROJECTS COMPLETED BY ASFPM'S FLOOD SCIENCE CENTER RANGE FROM RESEARCH TO APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT TO EDUCATION/OUTREACH IN ORDER TO FURTHER THE MISSION OF ASFPM. PROJECT DELIVERABLES, WHENEVER POSSIBLE, ARE WIDELY DISSEMINATED TO PROMOTE MORE EFFECTIVE FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT AT THE FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL LEVELS.

CONFERENCES--PROVIDES PEER EXCHANGE AND TRAINING FOR ATTENDEES ON TOPICS RELATED TO FLOODING AND FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT.THE ASFPM ANNUAL TECHNICAL CONFERENCE IS THE COUNTRY'S PREMIER CONFERENCE FOR ALL THINGS RELATED TO FLOODING AND FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT. THE CONFERENCE PROVIDES PEER EXCHANGE AND TRAINING FOR ATTENDEES. ATTENDANCE FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS HAS EXCEEDED 1,000 PROFESSIONALS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY AS WELL AS INTERNATIONALLY.

NATIONAL/STATE/LOCAL POLICY ISSUES--INCLUDES WORKING WITH AGENCIES, OTHER NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS, AND CONGRESS TO PROVIDE MEANINGFUL FEEDBACK ON POLICY PROPOSALS FROM THE PRACTITIONER'S POINT OF VIEW, FACILITATION COLLABORATION AMONG FEDERAL AGENCIES AND BETWEEN AGENCIES AND STATE/LOCAL OFFICIALS, AND EDUCATING POLICY AND DECISION MAKERS ON EFFECTIVE FLOOD LOSS REDUCTION APPROACHES.THE ASSOCIATION'S NATIONAL POLICY WORK INCLUDES WORKING WITH AGENCIES, OTHER NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS, AND CONGRESS TO PROVIDE MEANINGFUL FEEDBACK ON POLICY PROPOSALS FROM THE PRACTITIONER'S POINT OF VIEW, FACILITATING COLLABORATION AMONG FEDERAL AGENCIES AND BETWEEN AGENCIES AND STATE/LOCAL OFFICIALS, AND EDUCATING POLICY AND DECISION MAKERS ON EFFECTIVE FLOOD LOSS REDUCTION APPROACHES.
