Organizations Filed Purposes:
CREATE VIBRANT THEATER EXPERIENCES THAT ENGAGE, EDUCATE, AND INSPIRE YOUNG PEOPLE AND THEIR COMMUNITIES.
DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, ONLY 3 LIVE THEATRICAL PRODUCTIONS WERE PRODUCED DURING OUR 2019-2020 SEASON, COMPARED TO OUR USUAL FIVE. PRODUCTION ATTENDANCE FOR THE 3 SHOWS WAS ABOUT 11,300 INCLUDING APPROXIMATELY 7,800 ADULTS AND 3,500 CHILDREN. IN ADDITION, APPROXIMATELY 4,871 STUDENTS ATTENDED 15 STUDENT MATINEE SHOWS. TICKET PRICES WERE KEPT AS LOW AS POSSIBLE SO THAT PEOPLE FROM ALL SEGMENTS OF SOCIETY CAN ATTEND. OUR COMMUNITY OUTREACH WORK OFFERED 600 COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS TO INDIVIDUALS, ORGANIZATIONS AND COMPANIES, INCLUDING OVERTURE CENTER'S COMMUNITY VOUCHER PROGRAM AND THE GOODMAN COMMUNITY CENTER. THESE COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS ENABLE LOW-INCOME PATRONS ACCESS TO OUR SHOWS WHO OTHERWISE COULD NOT ATTEND. WE ALSO PROVIDED OVER 300 TICKETS TO OTHER NON-PROFITS FOR VARIOUS FUNDRAISING EVENTS THEY HELD AND TO BUSINESSES IN THE COMMUNITY IN EXCHANGE FOR IN-KIND DONATIONS. OF THE 6,500 OF TICKETS PRE-SOLD TO SHOWS THAT HAD TO BE CANCELLED, OVER 2,400 WERE DONATED BACK TO THE THEATER, REFLECTING OUR COMMUNITY'S COMMITMENT TO SUPPORTING US DURING THIS TIME.
DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, WE HAD TO CONVERT TO OFFERING PROGRAMS ONLINE ONLY FOR SPRING AND SUMMER. THUS, ENROLLMENTS WERE DOWN COMPARED TO PREVIOUS YEARS. STILL, WE WERE ABLE TO OFFER 39 DRAMA CLASSES FOR CHILDREN TO DEVELOP CHILDREN'S INTEREST IN THEATER AND INCREASE THEIR SELF-CONFIDENCE AND PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS. APPROXIMATELY 440 CHILDREN PARTICIPATED WITH 23 OF THOSE ENROLLED RECEIVING TUITION SUBSIDIZING. IN ADDITION, OUR HIGH SCHOOL RESIDENCY PROGRAM ENGAGED 210 STUDENTS ACROSS 6 SCHOOLS IN A GRANT-SUBSIDIZED "YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS" PROGRAM, LED BY TEACHING ARTISTS, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE IN-SCHOOL TEACHER.
