Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE MISSION OF CLEAN LAKES ALLIANCE IS TO BUILD AND PROVIDE LEADERSHIP TO A COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE, BUSINESSES, ORGANIZATIONS, AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES DEDICATED TO IMPROVING AND PROTECTING WATER QUALITY IN THE YAHARA WATERSHED. A PRIMARY GOAL IS TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF PHOSPHORUS POLLUTION BY HALF AND INCREASE THE NUMBER OF DAYS THE LAKES ARE CLEAR AND THE BEACHES ARE OPEN.
THE CLEAN LAKES ALLIANCE IS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION DEVOTED TO THE WATER QUALITY OF AREA LAKES, STREAMS AND WETLANDS IN THE YAHARA RIVER WATERSHED.
OUTREACH & EDUCATION: WATERSHED ENGAGEMENT IS A VITAL PART TO ACHIEVING THE ORGANIZATION'S VISION THAT EVERYONE REALIZES THAT THE LAKES ARE THE CENTER OF OUR COMMUNITY. A VARIETY OF EDUCATION AND ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS SEEK TO INVOLVE DIVERSE GROUPS OF PEOPLE IN ONGOING LAKE-IMPROVEMENT EFFORTS. THE IDEA IS THAT INCREASED WATERSHED LITERACY AND AWARENESS LEADS TO ACTION AND PROGRESS. THE ORGANIZATION'S WATERSHED ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, OUR FROZEN ASSETS FESTIVAL, YAHARA LAKES 101, LAKE EXPLORER CAMP, RENEW THE BLUE VOLUNTEER DAYS, YAHARA WATERSHED ACADEMY, LUNCH-N-LEARN COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS, MENDOTA FREEZE CONTEST, REIMAGINE WARNER BEACH DESIGN CONTEST, RAKE FOR THE LAKE CAMPAIGN, FARM TOURS, CLEAN LAKES ALLIANCE COMMUNITY BREAKFAST, LOOP THE LAKE BIKE RIDE, AND CITIZEN WATER QUALITY MONITORING. THESE EFFORTS EMPOWER INDIVIDUALS TO ADVOCATE FOR AND HELP MAKE PROGRESS TOWARDS IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF OUR WATERS.
WATERSHED PROGRAMMING: WATERSHED PROGRAMMING IS ANOTHER ESSENTIAL GOAL OF THE ORGANIZATION, WITH THE AIM OF EVENTUALLY DOUBLING THE NUMBER OF DAYS OUR LAKES ARE CLEAR AND FREE OF ALGAE BLOOMS. RELATED PROGRAMS INCLUDE YAHARA PRIDE FARMS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, CLEAN LAKES GRANTS TO HELP LEVERAGE PARTNER EFFORTS, STATE OF THE LAKES PROGRESS REPORTING, YAHARA CLEAN PROJECT COLLABORATIONS, DEMONSTRATION PILOTS, AND POLICY ADVOCACY. THESE INITIATIVES CREATE THE FRAMEWORK TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF OUR WATERS BY FACILITATING AND TRACKING ACTION THROUGHOUT THE WATERSHED. PROGRAM OUTCOMES INCLUDE 30% PROGRESS TOWARD REACHING OUR 2025 PHOSPHORUS REDUCTION GOAL; OVER $162,500 IN GRANTS AWARDED TO BUILD PARTNER CAPACITY AND SUPPORT ON-THE-GROUND PROJECTS; 2,606 SAMPLING EVENTS BY VOLUNTEER LAKE MONITORS; 4,786 EDUCATION HOURS DELIVERED THROUGH CLEAN LAKES PROGRAMMING.
