COMMUNITY ACTION COALITION FOR SOUTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN, INC. IS AN ORGANIZATION THAT DEVELOPS ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL CAPACITIES OF INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES TO REDUCE POVERTY IN DANE, JEFFERSON AND WAUKESHA COUNTIES. THE ORGANIZATION SHALL WORK TO MAKE THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY MORE RESPONSIVE TO THE NEEDS OR INTERESTS OF THE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED TO BRING ABOUT GREATER INSTITUTIONAL SENSITIVITY TO THE PROBLEMS OF POVERTY AND TO MOBILIZE THE RESOURCES NECESSARY TO ACHIEVE THESE ENDS.
TO DEVELOP ECONOMIC & SOCIAL CAPACITIES OF INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES & COMMUNITIES TO REDUCE POVERTY IN DANE, JEFFERSON AND WAUKESHA COUNTIES.
HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION:COMMUNITY ACTION COALITION FOR SOUTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN, INC. (CAC) PROVIDES A WIDE VARIETY OF SERVICES FOCUSED ON PREVENTING HOMELESSNESS AND HELPING LOW-INCOME FAMILIES TO SECURE SAFE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING THAT IS SUSTAINABLE AND PERMANENT. INCLUDED IN THE AGENCY'S HOUSING SERVICES ARE THREE PERMANENT HOUSING PROGRAMS, TWO IN DANE COUNTY (HOME FOR GOOD AND SHIFT) AND ONE IN WAUKESHSA COUNTY (WISH). IN ADDITION CAC HAS A TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAM IN JEFFERSON COUNTY. EACH PROGRAM PROVIDES INTENSIVE CASE MANAGEMENT TO HOUSEHOLDS WHO WERE LITERALLY HOMELESS (I.E. ON THE STREETS OR IN A SHELTER) AND WORKING ON HOUSING STABILITY.CAC HAS BEEN PROVIDING SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR VETERAN FAMILIES (SSVF) FUNDED BY THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION IN ALL AREAS THE AGENCY SERVES. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR VETERANS THAT ARE HOMELESS OR AT RISK OF HOMELESSNESS. SERVICES INCLUDE CASE MANAGEMENT AND TEMPORARY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WHICH ALLOW VETERANS TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN STABLE HOUSING.CAC MANAGES THE HOUSING RESOURCE/LINE DESK WHICH IS HOUSED AT THE LOCAL JOB CENTER. THE HOUSING RESOURCE LINE/DESK IS A COLLABORATION WITH THE HOMELESS SERVICES CONSORTIUM TO PROVIDE THE LATEST INFORMATION ON AVAILABLE HOUSING AND EMERGENCY SHELTER IN A COORDINATED AND COMPREHENSIVE WAY. IN ADDITION, CAC ALSO PROVIDES A VARIETY OF OTHER PROGRAMS INCLUDING SUPPORT WITH EMPLOYMENT GOALS, EDUCATION ON TENANCY AND FINANCIAL LITERACY SKILLS.APPROXIMATELY 1,489 INDIVIDUALS RECEIVED SERVICES SUCH AS HOUSING CONSULTATION, TENANT/LANDLORD MEDIATION, SUPPORTIVE HOUSING, UTILITY ASSISTANCE, CASE MANAGEMENT AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IN 2018. IN ADDITION, CAC PROVIDED OVER 9,911 INFORMATION AND REFERRALS TO OTHER COMMUNITY PROGRAMS.
FOOD SECURITY PROGRAMS:AS AN EMERGENCY FOOD OPERATOR, CAC RECEIVES AND DISTRIBUTES FOOD FREE OF CHARGE TO PANTRIES, MEAL SITES, HOMELESS SHELTERS, AND SENIOR CENTERS IN DANE, JEFFERSON AND WAUKESHA COUNTIES. CAC PROCURES FOOD FROM THREE FEDERAL FOOD PROGRAMS - THE EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (TEFAP), THE COMMODITY SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD PROGRAM (CSFP) AND THE EMERGENCY FOOD & SHELTER PROGRAM (EFSP). ADDITIONALLY, CAC RECEIVES AND RE-DISTRIBUTES DONATED FOOD FROM A MYRIAD OF RESOURCES, SUCH AS THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LETTER CARRIERS STAMP OUT HUNGER FOOD DRIVE IN MAY. FOOD PROCURED BY CAC TOTALED 3,472,551 POUNDS AND FED OVER 448,584 DUPLICATED INDIVIDUALS IN 2018 ACCORDING TO THE REPORTS RECEIVED FROM MEAL SITES AND PANTRIES.CAC PROVIDES COORDINATION AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AS WELL AS ACCESS TO FUNDING FOR FOOD HANDLING EQUIPMENT TO THE FOOD PANTRIES AND MEAL SITES IN THE THREE COUNTIES WE SERVE. CAC COORDINATES THE 62-MEMBER DANE COUNTY FOOD PANTRY NETWORK, WHICH SUPPORTS AND ORGANIZES EFFORTS TO FIGHT HUNGER IN DANE COUNTY, AS WELL AS 13 FOOD PANTRIES IN JEFFERSON AND WAUKESHA COUNTIES.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS PROGRAMS:CAC MOBILIZED 716 VOLUNTEERS IN 2018 TO HELP MEET THE BASIC NEEDS OF LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES. THESE VOLUNTEERS PROVIDED OVER 9,637 HOURS OF SERVICE. CAC WORKS TO INFORM THE PUBLIC ABOUT POVERTY-RELATED ISSUES AND PROMOTES COMMUNITY SOLUTIONS TO ENDING POVERTY.
