OUR MISSION IS TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF OLDER ADULTS IN WISCONSIN BY ADMINISTERING HIGH-LEVEL EVIDENCE-BASED HEALTH PROMOTION PROGRAMS AND BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS TO SPREAD HEALTHY AGING PROGRAMS THAT HELP OLDER PEOPLE LIVE LONGER, AND LIVE BETTER.WISCONSIN INSTITUTE FOR HEALTHY AGING, INC. (WIHA) ADVOCATES TO ESTABLISH EVIDENCE-BASED PROGRAMS AS ESSENTIAL TOOLS FOR ENHANCING AND PROMOTING GOOD HEALTH AND WELLNESS FOR PEOPLE AS THEY AGE.
TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE-BASED HEALTH PROMOTION AND PREVENTION FOR OLDER ADULTS.
THE WISCONSIN INSTITUTE FOR HEALTHY AGING (WIHA) ORGANIZED AND CONDUCTED LEADER TRAINING, SUPPORTED AND COACHED LEADERS, AND PURCHASED AND DISTRIBUTED MATERIALS NEEDED FOR LEADERS AND LEADER TRAININGS FOR SIX HIGH-LEVEL EVIDENCE-BASED HEALTH PROMOTION PROGRAMS: LIVING WELL WITH CHRONIC CONDITIONS (ENGLISH AND SPANISH); HEALTHY LIVING WITH DIABETES (ENGLISH AND SPANISH); STEPPING ON; POWERFUL TOOLS FOR CAREGIVERS; AND WALK WITH EASE. WITH STRONG RESEARCH-BASED EVIDENCE OF SUCCESS, THESE PREVENTION PROGRAMS HAVE DELIVERED TREMENDOUS RESULTS IN IMPROVING HEALTH, IMPROVING HEALTH CARE, AND DECREASING FALLS, EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT VISITS, HOSPITALIZATIONS, AND PHYSICIAN VISITS. IN 2018, WIHA AND ITS LOCAL PARTNERS HOSTED A TOTAL OF 430 COMMUNITY-BASED WORKSHOPS STATE-WIDE, SERVING OVER 4,000 INDIVIDUALS. WIHA ALSO LICENSES STEPPING ON ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND HAS ACTIVE LICENSES WITH AGENCIES AND ORGANIZATIONS IN 23 OTHER STATES. IN 2019, WIHA ADDED HEALTHY LIVING WITH CHRONIC PAIN, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY FOR LIFELONG SUCCESS AND MIND OVER MATTER: HEALTHY BOWELS, HEALTHY BLADDER. WIHA HOSTS A BI-ANNUAL HEALTHY AGING SUMMIT AND PROVIDES REPRESENTATION ON VARIOUS HEALTH-RELATED COMMITTEES AND CONFERENCE PLANNING GROUPS. IN 2019, WIHA HELD SIX HEALTH PROMOTION SUMMER SCHOOL SESSIONS AROUND THE STATE OF WISCONSIN.
