INNOVATE, IMPACT AND IMPROVE WOMEN'S HEALTH IN WISCONSIN.
THE WISCONSIN WOMEN'S HEALTH FOUNDATION HELPS WISCONSIN WOMEN AND THEIR FAMILIES REACH THEIR HEALTHIEST POTENTIAL.
OUTREACH, EDUCATION, AND SCREENING - THE WISCONSIN WOMEN'S HEALTH FOUNDATION (WWHF) PROVIDES WOMEN'S HEALTH SERVICES AND EDUCATION FOR WOMEN AND FAMILIES. WE HAVE STATEWIDE PROGRAMS IN ALL 72 WISCONSIN COUNTIES, SERVING OVER 7,000 WOMEN EACH YEAR. THE WWHF SERVICES AND RESEARCH INITIATIVES ARE ROOTED IN EVIDENCED-BASED PREVENTION OF THE DISEASES AND CONDITIONS THAT MOST IMPACT WISCONSIN WOMEN'S HEALTH (CANCER, DIABETES PREVENTION, DEMENTIA, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, HEART HEALTH, MENTAL HEALTH, ORAL HEALTH AND ALCOHOL AND SMOKING CESSATION FOR PREGNANT WOMEN). GRAPEVINE PARTNERS WITH VOLUNTEER NURSES WHO CONDUCT EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS WITH WOMEN IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE NURSES BRING HEALTH EDUCATION AND RESOURCES TO RURAL AND UNDERSERVED WOMEN THROUGHOUT WISCONSIN AND CONNECT WOMEN TO THE HEALTH RESOURCES WITHIN THEIR OWN COMMUNITY. THE GOAL OF GRAPEVINE IS TO EDUCATE WOMEN ABOUT DISEASE PREVENTION AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE CHANGES. WWHF ALSO HOLDS ANNUAL EVENTS, WHICH MAY INCLUDE WORKSHOPS, EXHIBITS, LECTURES, HEALTH SCREENINGS, AND EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS. ALL PROGRAMMING IN THIS CATEGORY WORKS TO CONNECT INDIVIDUALS TO LOCAL HEALTH RESOURCES. WE PUBLISH A NEWSLETTER TWICE A YEAR AND EMAIL MONTHLY NEWSLETTERS WHICH FEATURE ARTICLES ON A VARIETY OF HEALTH TOPICS, PROGRAM UPDATES AND SUCCESS STORIES, GRANTS AND AWARD RECOGNITION, AND DONOR RECOGNITION. WWHF ALSO WORKS WITH THE WISCONSIN WELL WOMAN PROGRAM/WISEWOMAN PROGRAMS ON EDUCATION, SCREENING, AND CONNECTING WOMEN WITH RESOURCES IN THE AREAS OF BREAST AND CERVICAL CANCER, MS, AND CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE.THE WELL BADGER RESOURCE CENTER PROVIDES INFORMATION & REFERRALS (I&R) SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, AND HEALTH PROFESSIONALS THROUGHOUT THE STATE. WELL BADGER SPECIALIZES IN INFORMATION AND REFERRALS FOR HEALTH CARE SERVICES AND RESOURCES INCLUDING WIC, BADGERCARE PLUS, WISCONSIN WELL WOMAN, SERVICES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH WITH SPECIAL HEALTH CARE NEEDS, MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES, AND MANY MORE. WELL BADGER RESOURCE CENTER IS STAFFED BY AIRS-CERTIFIED INFORMATION & REFERRAL SPECIALISTS. SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE TO INDIVIDUALS FROM ACROSS WISCONSIN, OPERATING MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 7:00 A.M. TO 6:00 P.M. ASSISTANCE IS ALSO AVAILABLE VIA EMAIL, TEXT MESSAGE, ONLINE LIVE CHAT, AND ONLINE SEARCHABLE DATABASE.
PREGNANCY PROGRAMS - THE PERINATAL PROGRAMS INCLUDE FIRST BREATH AND MY BABY & ME. THE FIRST BREATH PROGRAM IS WISCONSIN'S PROGRAM TO HELP PREGNANT WOMEN, NEW MOMS AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS BECOME TOBACCO-FREE. FIRST BREATH QUIT COACHES, TRAINED AS CERTIFIED TOBACCO TREATMENT SPECIALISTS, PROVIDE FREE, INDIVIDUALIZED IN-PERSON, PHONE, AND TEXT-BASED SERVICES. FIRST BREATH PARTNERED WITH OVER 250 SITES ACROSS THE STATE WHO USE THE ASK-ADVISE-REFER MODEL TO IDENTIFY TOBACCO USERS. SITES CURRENTLY INCLUDE LOCAL PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENTS, PRIVATE HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS, FEDERALLY FUNDED COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS, AND TRIBAL HEALTH CLINICS. A TOTAL OF 1,425 WOMEN WERE REACHED DURING 2019 BRINGING THE TOTAL NUMBER OF WOMEN SERVED TO OVER 22,000 CLIENTS SINCE 2000. THE MY BABY & ME PROGRAM IS A FETAL ALCOHOL SPECTRUM DISORDERS PREVENTION PROGRAM THAT HELPS WOMEN ACHIEVE ALCOHOL-FREE PREGNANCIES THROUGH SCREENINGS, EDUCATION, PHONE COUNSELING AND TEXT MESSAGE SUPPORT. HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS USE THE MY BABY & ME SCREENING PROCESS TO EDUCATE AND IDENTIFY PREGNANT WOMEN WITH ALCOHOL-RELATED QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS. WOMEN WHO NEED ADDITIONAL SUPPORT ARE REFERRED TO THE WWHF FOR PHONE COUNSELING AND EDUCATION. MBM PROVIDES CONSISTENT MESSAGING AND EVIDENCE-BASED INFORMATION ABOUT THE OFTEN-CONFUSING ISSUE OF ALCOHOL USE DURING PREGNANCY. IN 2019, 1,350 PREGNANT WOMEN WERE SCREENED FOR THEIR RISK OF HAVING AN ALCOHOL EXPOSED PREGNANCY AND 1,278 RECEIVED EDUCATION FROM THEIR MY BABY & ME PROVIDERS. THIS PROGRAM WAS ALSO IMPLEMENTED BY 83 SITES STATEWIDE.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE - ADMINISTER THE SUSAN G. KOMEN WISCONSIN BREAST CANCER ASSISTANCE FUND UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE SUSAN G. KOMEN WISCONSIN AFFILIATE OF SUSAN G. KOMEN FOR THE CURE. THIS "COMMUNITY SAFETY NET" FUND PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO: UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED MEN AND WOMEN OF ANY AGE; RESIDES OR RECEIVES SERVICES IN ONE OF OUR ELIGIBLE TWENTY-TWO WISCONSIN COUNTIES (COLUMBIA, DANE, DODGE, GREEN, IOWA, JEFFERSON, KENOSHA, LANGLADE, LINCOLN, MARATHON, MILWAUKEE, OZAUKEE, PORTAGE, RACINE, ROCK, SAUK, SHAWANO, TAYLOR, WALWORTH, WASHINGTON, WAUKESHA, AND WOOD); INCOME IS AT OR BELOW 400% OF THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL. FUNDS COVER BREAST HEALTH SCREENING SERVICES; AND FOR PEOPLE WITH BREAST CANCER, ACCESS TO TREATMENT SERVICES.
