THE HEMOSTASIS AND THROMBOSIS RESEARCH SOCIETY, INC. (HTRS) IS THE LEADING NORTH AMERICAN PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY DEDICATED TO RESEARCH, MENTORING, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, AND CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION FOR PHYSICIANS, INVESTIGATORS, AND ALL HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS INTERESTED IN ADVANCING CARE FOR PEOPLE WITH HEMOSTATIC AND THROMBOTIC DISORDERS.
IN 2019 WE HELD: 2 TRAINEE WORKSHOPS; THE HTRS 2019 SCIENTIFIC SYMPOSIUM; 2 CONECCTOR MEETINGS; 2 VENUS MEETINGS; THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS RETREAT; AND THE THROMBOSIS WORKSHOP AT ASH.
EDUCATION: ANNUAL HTRS TRAINEE WORKSHOPS TARGET PEDIATRIC AND ADULT MEDICINE RESIDENTS AND FELLOWS (MDS AND DOS) INTERESTED IN EXPLORING CAREERS AS CLINICIANS AND/OR PHYSICIAN SCIENTISTS IN HEMOSTASIS AND THROMBOSIS. EACH 1.5-DAY WORKSHOP IS LIMITED TO 30 TRAINEES AND 6-8 EXPERT FACULTY PRESENTERS AND MENTORS. WORKSHOPS ARE OFFERED TWICE PER YEAR IN SPRING AND PRIOR TO THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF HEMATOLOGY (ASH). ATTENDEES RECEIVE FREE HTRS MEMBERSHIP FOR THE DURATION OF THEIR TRAINING. FY 2019 WORKSHOPS WERE HELD ON MAY 7-8 IN NEW ORLEANS, LA, AND DECEMBER 4-5 IN ORLANDO, FL.
GRANTS AND ASSISTANCE: A PRIMARY STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE OF HTRS IS TO COMBAT THE CRITICAL SHORTAGE OF SKILLED HEMATOLOGISTS IN NORTH AMERICA BY PROVIDING GRANTS TO SUPPORT THE RESEARCH AND CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION OF TRAINEES, JUNIOR FACULTY/JUNIOR ATTENDING, AND MID-CAREER INVESTIGATORS. HTRS GRANTS AND AWARDS INCLUDE THE HTRS MRA; TWO-YEAR MENTORED RESEARCH AWARDS FOR YOUNG INVESTIGATORS PURSUING CLINICAL OR BASIC SCIENCE RESEARCH CAREERS IN BENIGN HEMATOLOGY, HTRS/NOVO NORDISK CFA; ONE-YEAR CLINICAL FELLOWSHIPS IN HEMOPHILIA AND RARE BLEEDING DISORDERS FOR TRAINEES WORKING UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF AN EXPERIENCED MENTOR, AND THE HTRS MCRA; PROVIDING FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR MID-CAREER INVESTIGATORS PURSUING CLINICAL, TRANSLATIONAL, OR BASIC SCIENCE RESEARCH PROJECTS IN HEMOSTASIS AND/OR THROMBOSIS.
