ACADEMIC YEAR PROGRAM: SHARP'S MISSION IS TO PARTNER WITH EDUCATORS TO FOSTER A LOVE OF LEARNING AND BRIGHTEN CHILDREN'S FUTURES THROUGH INNOVATIVE STEAM-BASED EXPERIENTIAL PROGRAMS. SHARP SERVES MOSTLY UNDERSERVED STUDENTS, BY INSTILLING A LOVE FOR SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ART AND MATH. WE PROVIDE MEMORABLE AND TRANSFORMATIVE EXPERIENCES THAT SPARK CURIOSITY AND MOTIVATE STUDENTS TO LEARN AND EXPLORE. WE WORK TOWARDS STRENGTHENING STUDENTS' LIFE SKILLS IN TEAMWORK AND COLLABORATION AND IMPROVING STUDENTS' FUTURE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE. SHARP SERVES AS A VALUABLE PARTNER TO SCHOOLS, TEACHERS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS.SUMMER LEARNING GAIN INITIATIVE (SLGI): THE GOAL OF SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM IS TO PREVENT THE LEARNING REGRESSION COMMON TO URBAN CHILDREN DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS THROUGH ENGAGING, HANDS-ON LEARNING EXPERIENCES AND INTERACTIVE TOURS. FROM JUNE THROUGH AUGUST 2020, SHARP PARTNERED WITH 18 COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS FOR OUR 6TH ANNUAL SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM, PRESENTED BY RYAN BRAUN AND THE BCF. THE ORGANIZATIONS ARE IN SOME OF MILWAUKEE'S MOST DISTRESSED ZIP CODES, CHARACTERIZED BY HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT (60%), LOW EDUCATION (LESS THAN 10% OF THE POPULATION HAVE A COLLEGE DEGREE) AND HIGH POVERTY (90% OF THE PUBLIC-SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT LIVE IN THESE ZIP CODES ARE DISADVANTAGED). THE SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM IS A MODIFIED VERSION OF OUR SCHOOL-YEAR CURRICULUM, MAINTAINING FOCUS ON BUILDING ACADEMIC AND CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS AND PROMOTING COLLABORATIVE CREATION. AFTER SCHOOL LEARNING INITIATIVE (ASLI): SHARP LITERACY PROVIDES AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMMING TO VARIOUS COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTERS.
